My Email

for the first time ever using pandora I got a wierd 40hr limit warning and then my app was locked from mobile devices. It irritated me so I emailed pandora. Ive been using it for about a year now and thats never happened.

I think its bullshit that skipped tracks count towards the limit but this is the email from me and pandora

Got a 40hr limit notice

In all the time i've been using the app ive never reached the limit before. I am not listening any more than usual. DO you have a way for users to track their hours? I think there is a mistake. If this happens than I will refuse to ever use pandora again and will def not buy the pandora one. There are other apps out there without the limit. This was just the most convenient one.

Hi Ken,

Thank you for your question about your free mobile listening. We understand that your concern is that you have run out of free listening early in the month.

The mobile listening limit is based on the number of tracks you access from your mobile device, including skipped tracks. If you are a heavy user of our skipping functionality, you may be running out of your track allocation earlier than you would like.

We know this is perhaps not the answer you were hoping for, but we have a variety of options available to keep the music you love flowing:

- Pay $.99 to listen until the end of the calendar month - – this option will be available to you when you launch the app on your mobile device
- Upgrade to Pandora One to remove the limit completely: http://www.pandora.com/one
- Listen as much as you like on our website or on in-home listening devices (such as TVs and Blu-Ray players).

While you are deciding what to do, I have added 200 more tracks to your account/device limit. You can maximize this additional listening time by limiting your skips and pausing your music whenever you are not actively listening to Pandora.

If you would like some tips to help tune your station with less skipping, let me know.

Thanks for being a Pandora listener.

Was my reply helpful?

I think its cool she gave me more tracks. She could have told me to pound sand (thats what I expected) I MAY buy pandora one when I get paid. I do still its BS to add skipped tracks though so I may find a better app

who knows

My guess is that the license fees they pay are the same whether you listen to a partial or whole track, which is why skipped tracks still count.

In any case, that was a nice response on Pandora's part!

Yeah, Pandora is worth supporting as they've fought a good fight against the freaking record labels and their insane licensing deals. They try hard to be on the side of their users. I've been a paid subscriber for a few years now and continue to be despite the fact that I don't really use it nearly as much as I used to.

1) Pandora shouldn't have to pay licensing fees unless you listen at least 8 second of a song. Skipping a song really quickly shouldn't count.

2) Pandora should let me go back and finish a song I skipped by accident. If they're already paying the license fees, they should just let me go back. My Pandora app on my phone often gets laggy and double skips causing me to skip over good songs.

yeah I like that they said...look this is our policy, however you may not have known. We are going to take your word you didnt. So heres some more time on us but now you know.

I wish more places or business did this.
