KT7E - 1.2ghz ... 200 or 266 CPU??

I'm building a second system for the kids. I see there is no price difference for the 200 vs the 266 ... will I be able to use the 1.2 266 or should I just stick with the 1.2 200?

I'm not going to be over-clocking, if that makes any differnce.

It looks like that board is spec'ed at 100mhz (200mhz internal CPU) but according to this article it will do 133mhz (266mhz), but just barely.

HardOCP-KT7E

If it were me I would get the 200mhz chip to be sure it was 100% stable on the first time into BIOS. But you could always unlock the multiplier (assuming it doesn't come that way) anyway and use whichever chip, because they are essentially the same internal with different external bridge setup. The only issue would be the first time powerup, if you got a board that wouldn't do 133.

From What I Have read about the kt7e its a cheap kt7a in blue. Remember that the a chip was 1st & The e is actually the next version. it is unlikely that via took performance away from it.

Well I don't think they took performance away but Abit is only listing it as 100/200 mhz. But it does 133 according to HardOCP and heck for the price difference in a non-overclocked system it would be hard to beat.

I'm going to pick up the KT7E. It looks like I should probably go with a 200 fsb as I don't want to have the system not even boot up. How about the processor speed... 1ghz or 1.2ghz and OEM or retail? Any suggestions.

1.2 is only about $20 more for that extra 200Mhz. On OEM vs. retail, it depends on what you intend to do. If you are going for an extreme overclock, OEM is the way to go. Put the $25-30 savings twoard a top HS/Fan and some Arctic Silver or whatever. If running at stock speed, the retail HS/F will do fine and you'll have a 3 year warranty.

Thamks for the advice! The kids will have a KT7E/1.2ghz.... Dad will get the really good stuff for himself later!
