KT7A with T-bird 850 won't boot. One loooong beep then shutdown

I disconnected everything but the cpu with the same results. I double checked the case plugs and even unplugged all but the power switch plug. It has to be the chip or mobo right? Anyway to tell? I don't have another chip around.
I just read about the fan having to be in the #1 plug, I don't remember which I had it in. I'll try that when I get home. All fans run.

If it shutsdown then you might have the cpu fan in the wrong fan header. The CPU Fan must be in FAN_1, which is closer to the dimm slots then the CPU. Alot of people get this mixed up with FAN_2 since it's closer to the CPU socket then FAN_1

Thanks Jimmy, that is exactly what happened. I didn't see anywhere in the manual stating that.

Whats the temperature? I remember mine messed up, never shut down, just reallllllllllly long beeeeeeps. It was overheating

Since no one else has mentioned this, you did unlock the multplier and step it back a bit, didn't you?

The Tbird 850 is 8.5x 100 fsb. At 133 fsb you're trying to overclock that chip at 1133 (unless you step back the multiplier), which it may or may not be able to do. At any rate you would probably have to increase the voltage to do it.

Also, go over to overclockers.com. There seems to be a problem with Tbirds which were marketed at less than 1000 with the abit Kt7a boards. Some problem with backind down the multiplier enough. Also they have other speculations about the issues there. Check it out.

I tested and ran 2 900 T-Birds underclocked to 750 with the FSB at 140-145 on my KT7A RAID, and had no problems.
