hay guys got my new board yesterday and set it up earlier today, odd thing is this its a 1.2 gig tbird @ 1.3 gig
but the via hardware monitor @ idle is reading
25c i would say that has to be wrong, but even my thermal probe drive display (lcd) is reading that exact temp.
number for # i dont get it
i have it on a volcano 2 heatsink with the stock everflow fan. as we speak my probe is reading 25.5
anybody know how reliable via's hardware monitor is?

if your using windows ME, or 2000 that could be a correct reading.. they both use an algorithm to cool the cpu during idle.. sorta like those cpu cooling programs only built into the the OS. I have the same board, and thats about normal for my idle temps... tbird 900@1000 KT7A-Raid... right now im at 78F.

Hey, don,t feel so bad :)

I've got a 1.2 Ghz Thunderbird and it's running at about 57 c at full load!!!!!!!!!!!

But Don't forget I'm in FNQ (AUS) So it would be hotter.

since all of you guys have the abit kt7a, should i buy it for around $135...pricewatch has it for $125 + shipping...or is that too high??? retail is around $160, right???

install a thunderbird 750??? is that the best bang for the buck??? buy a pre-tested model or is achieving 1ghz no problem?

my msi 6163 died..it was a BX board fitted with p3 450...this is the second time and don't want a stinkin' msi anymore...no warranty to end-users, only to the dealer i bought it from...which subsequently went out of business...

how's the warranty on this thing??

OK, Ducati, I don't know the price of th KT7A There 'cause I'm in Australia, but I CAN help!
Yes I do own a KT7A..........BUT there is a problem with Geforce GTS card with it not POSTing (Power On Self Test)
If you can afford it I would definately recommend one of AMD's 761 chipsetboards as they prove a definate performance increase over the VIA KT133A chipset. (but you will have to pay the extra price for pc1600/pc2100 RAM)

By the way (from what I've heard) an AMD 761, pc1600 configuration is WORSE than an AMD 750 w/pc133 --> AMD 1.0Ghz

As for what motherboard you should buy, well, I am going to get a lot of flames here, but i'd really recommend an INTEL configuration!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I Support AMD.
But buy INTEL!!!!!!!!!!

WHY? ------->STABILITY

Do you own a Geforce2 GTS ?
There is a DEFINATE problem VIA chipsets with the Geforce2 GTS card (Hopefully fixed with a BIOS update)

*NOTE* I have the latest VIA 4in1 4.29 drivers

Do you own a soundblaster live! card?
this can cause problems

That's the reason why I'd go with an ITEL system...............even though I have an AMD system :)
