Hola Folks,
I have been wanting to upgrade for quite some time, but the money isn't gonna let me buy a whole MB+CPU+MEM combo, so I am left to seeing what I can do with my Abit KT7A+TB 1GHz.

Unfortunately I have a V1.1 and can't go up to the fancy XP setup yet.

The Abit website says

Support AMD 1.4GHz(133)CPU. (The bios is for both KT7 and KT7A series, but this enhancement is for KT7A/KT7A-RAID series only)

This will work correct? FSB is just 2x CPUBus right?
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.4GHz/266MHz FSB CPU

So 1.4 will be the most I can get into it. Would I see a nice increase from 1Ghz to 1.4Ghz?

Thanks,
Shawn

Thanks, looking at it now.
Are you refering to this statement?

KT7A/KT7A-RAID versions 1.0 to 1.2: All Athlon (Thunderbird) processors with both 100MHz and 133MHz FSB. AthlonXP processors are not officially supported due to a minor timing problem that can require you to hit reset during a cold boot. Unofficially, however, few people seem to experience this problem and these processors work fine.

Dunno if I want to risk buying a CPU that won't work, especially since I can't cover the cash for new MB and Memory.
New truck needs toys too ;)

Thanks,
Shawn

I am back. I have a 1.4 266 Tbird running at 1450mhz 10.5x138fsb on a KT7A Raid V1.1 at optimal memory settings. Nothing to it. I am still playing with it I expect to get more. I am using azza cas2 ram 2x256 for 512 total. No blue screens at all yet. I am running Win 2k pro. Temp is 44c under load with volcano7 in an open desktop case max RPM 4000. I am running ECCP109 and getting 855k IT per second. You will need a HSF rated for this speed and a chipset fan if the board lacks one.
