KT7A recall...

I just called atacom today, one of the only 2 companies listing the KT7A on pricewatch. They said something about the boards being recalled and that they will have them next week. Anyone hear the same? They said they have a bunch of the raid boards but I don't need raid so why should I have to settle for it. The salesman didn't know exactly why they were recalled and I'm wondering if it's for real. Also, who's to say the raid boards won't be recalled either(aren't they the same boards + the raid controller?) This has put me into quite a dilema. I was just about to put my order in and now I'm wondering if I should wait for the msi board. I don't like the fact that it has onboard sound because I don;t want any chance of there being a conflict with my SB Live Value card but I may have to. Add to that my overanxiousness to get a KT133a board and you've got a nervous breakdown in progress.:p Oh well, if anybody can clarify this or say something to the contrary, I'd certainly appreciate it.

I called two of my distributors that carry Abit KT7A boards and none of them has heard about the recall. Maybe that's just a nice way for Atacom to tell you it's out of stock? :p

i'd be careful from ordering from atacom. i had trouble from them in the past.
they are very very slow with RMA's and they kill you with shipping charges.
last thing you want to do is incase they send you a defective product. have
RMA take like 3 weeks to send you a replacement.

ATACOM is the worst damn place to buy anything. I wouldn't belive them if they told me the sun was comming up tomarrow. They are just lieing because they don't have any in stock and don't want you to buy them elsewere. Do yourself a favor, DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE!

I just got my KT7A-RAID today to replace my older KT7-RAID, I'll let you know if I have any problems with it after I install it tonight.

Talked to my distributor again and we got to talking about this recall rumor again. Turns out (NOT CONFIRMED) that there isn't a recall problem but customs problem. Customs in Taiwan are holding boards for some kind of inspection on chips used in the motherboard. These are supposedly real common chips used in many boards (So it's not isolated to ABIT) and could be 1 of the factors why we have not seen the MSI K7T Turbo boards yet. Like I stated, this is just what I heard down the pipe...;)

Thanks for all the input guys. Just got back from work and was thinking about my new computer that just needs a mobo and cpu. Got everything else ready and waiting so it's hard to wait. However, I think because I won't be upgrading the new board for a while, it's best to wait until at least the boards are available at a few more places(especially at reputable places). Thanks especially to jimmygates for the inside info which does put me more at ease about considering this board. The guy at atacom seemed a little vague and he also didnt seem to speak english too well so maybe to him recall meant something else. I guess I'll be patient and suck it up. Believe me it's hard when your putzin around with a pII 300!!

My KT7A-RAID works great. Only problem is the Highpoint SiSoft Sandra benchmarks are actually 5000 lower on the new motherboard, looks like I'll be keeping my old KT7-RAID instead.

Wow I have never had any trouble with Atacom and there shipping seems fair to me. I even fried a Duron and sent it back to them and had a brand new one a week later.
