KT7A-R and Maxtor ATA 100

Here's what happened. I hooked up my 30gb Maxtor hard drive w/ ATA/100 to one of the raid controllers. Then it started freezing on me, and wasn't being detected at times on the bios startup. So I figured I would just start over and reformat it, and put it back to the normal ide controllers. But it must have gotten fried because it wouldn't reformat. I was looking through the updated highpoint controllers and one said, "fixes Maxtor ATA/100 incompatability issues". What are the incompatability issues, would it actually crash the hard drive? I just RMAed the HD and will be getting another in a few days. So if I update the highpoint drivers should this other hard drive work fine? Or does anyone think this isn't what fried it in the first place, maybe something else (I can't imagine what though.)? Anyone else have problems w/ ATA/100 Maxtor drives and this MB?

Sorry to read your having HDD trouble but for what it's worth I've got two Maxtor 30GB(7200rpm) drives-one ATA66, the other ATA100-that I've had no problems running on my KT7-raid. When you switched the 80pin cable from the HPT370 controller to the 686b did you disable the 370 and then reconfigure your boot order?

I just installed the high point controllers from the cd I got w/ my MB, connected the HD cable to ide 3 (the first raid ide), made sure Highpoint controller was enabled in the bios, and changed my second boot from HD to ATA/Raid. That was it and everything was working fine for a while. Then it just started fritzing on me. And finally crashed.
Can you check to see what highpoint drivers you are using, what version?

Oh, and when I went back to reformat the HD w/ it on ide 1, I could partition it, but it wouldn't reformat. And I had switched everything back to the way it was before in the BIOS.

Hi, the driver listed in device manager is v1.0.3b10.15.2000(date of 1-29-2000). Hope you get it sorted soon.

Thanks, I'll have to check and see if that is a later one than the one I am using.

Anyone else have any ideas or had any similar problems?
