Yep its true, just got the word from the AMD help desk yesterday after fighting with my new system for several nights after work my 98 install was fine until after the install of the mainboard chipset drivers, it rebooted and found everything but the PCI bridge drivers:disgust:. A friend has the same system but the chip is an 850 and he had no problems. Tonight we will try to upgrade his with my gig chip. Additionally display never comes up from a cold boot and you must unplug the power supply then boot,...comes up everytime(consistant)AMD said that is the mainboard and Abit says its the Chip, talk about pass the blame. Anyone got any input on this? thanks for taking the> ScS

Unplug your machine and reset your CMOS. The proceedure is in your mobo manual. Move the jumper from 1-2, to 2-3 for about 10 seconds and switch the jumper back to 1-2. Also, reseat your memory, vidcard and all PCI cards. Recheck all connections inside, power and data. Then and only then reboot. You should be fine.

So you dont think either piece of hardware is bad if I can get an OS up ( i got win2k up but the ACPI kept moving all commponnents to IRQ 11 after the driver install) and even 98 gets up but the dam PCI bridge cant ever find a driver. I searched mo bo CD, win 98 cd every folder that i got on it and my windows sys and sys 32....WTF...got high frames thou when i did a frag benchmark in 2000. but the power thing is a different matter. I 'll try those steps b4 i cold boot that mofo 2nite, thanx MD

Something you may want to try with your system is to set it up with your bud's 850, then throw your 1000 in and see what happens. I can't see how only changing the multiplier after everything is installed would cause it to fail.

As for not getting any video unless you unplug it, I've had the same problem as well. I tried it with an Asus 7100 and some other old AGP card I had laying around and had the same problem. I couldn't find a fix for it.

A friend of mine had the same problem you are having with you graphics card. Are you using an Ati Rage128 card by chance? I am not sure if it matters but to fix it, I turned off ACPI settings relating to the display and stepped down to AGP 4x. I think that once we got everything working correctly I was able to turn on AGP 4x again on his KT7.

I just sent out same 1gig conf. and it gave same problem. If you're OCing then redo your traces if not then reset cmos. should correct problem.

WEll we tried my 1 gig in my buds KT7A over the weekend and as suspected gave the same results (not showing the BIOS on first boot and shuting the powersupply off then it comes up) So having tested my chip it was time to try his brand new chip that he hasnt even tried out 1 gig tbird also and ....it produced the same results. I got the hardware up in 2000 but when i run quake3 or team arena the audio and video surges like quick stops tried turning agp down and some other tweaks , havent researched the MS win2k athalon patch yet, tho, any suggestions? I guess i should give up since AMD said there are problems with this combo

That's strange, I had a KT7A (non-RAID) with a blue core 1GHz CPU, and it ran absolutely flawless. I managed to overclock to 1.2 GHz. using 133FSB. This chip, of course, is the older B model with 200 FSB. I used the silver trace pen and never had any problems.

I think the incompatibility is deeper than just your motherboard and CPU. It can be software/driver issue, defective mobo, incompatible PCI device, or poor PCI slot arrangement.

We'll need more information on your system configuration to help you out.

Welll I got a creative labs Geforce2 GTS, soundblaster live, and an SMC nic. All these components worked fine under win 2000 on an abit bp6, i am still using the same drivers and all devices are on seperate IRQs sound on 5 video on 10 and nic on 11. i am at werk so I cant tell you what slots these r in but i checked with abit about the sharing and placed the cards appropriatly. also I am using the same RAM. AMD says that the chief issue with the 1 gig chip on the KT7A is that it wont boot into the bios and if you can get past that then your fine. I suspect it has something to do with the 2000 install i did by pressing f7 and selecting standard computer in the list so ACPI wouldnt be part of the system ( it was f*&ked on my last run and abit said to do this) but it seems that some of my DMA stuff didnt come up on this install either. at any rate who wants a combo that has known issues even if it is just power on thing:Q its still not right and as ABIT is no help think i might go MSI or Asus if I cant get it working this week

Dood, that explains a lot.

I just got a KT7A-RAID and a 850 t-bird, which im OC'ing to about 1Ghz (133 x 7.5)

And when I would set my FSB to +1 or something, the system wouldnt even POST. I was thinking that my chip couldnt handle it. Now I know that is not the case.

If anybody figures out this problem, I wanna know the solution too.

I've got a 900 with a KT7-RAID and when I tried to OC it to anything over 950, it won't post. And when running it at 950 for a day or so, I'll boot it back up after turning it off for the night, and the NTFS file system'll be corrupt... which is a complete reinstall. So I just gave up and left it at 900. The only thing to do is reset the CMOS when it won't post. I'd love to hear about a solution... I was hoping to OC the thing to at least a GHZ.

I just added a fan to my 1 gig, it would not oc/stable even at 1.05
After installing the extra fan piggybacked to the existing on with tie wraps around the heatsink and through the screw holes I now get 1.1 gigs
So cooling is a major part of oc/ing

Get a extra fan and piggyback it and I bet it will oc/1gig for you

We are talking about a pontential "incompatibility" about a certain CPU and MB, NOT how far we can OC our CPU.

When the system wont POST, Do what I do. Turn it on 2-3 times, and then leave it completely powered (unplug power) off for about 1-2 mins. The system will POST after that.

Well, since I figured out that is the problem, maybe I can look forward to OC'ing my chip even further.
