I am planning to use raid 0 on this board. I understand that it is perfered to drives of the same size but it is possible to use drives of different size? For example I have a WD 40GB ATA100 and a WD 27GB UDMA33. Is it possible to hook these up using raid 0? Would it even be worth it or would using the second drive actually be slower than just using the 40GB ATA100?

What are your intended uses for this system? Couple things to consider:
Raid 0 will treat both hard drives as 27GB.
There may be timing issues.
There are also certain brand hard drives that it does not like.
A better option (IMHO) would be to consider running the 40GB as the master OS drive with the 27GB as redundant data drive. I have this board and have found mine to be stable. I bought the raid version for the extra IDE ports and not for the raid ability itself.
If you are running video editing or anything else with huge files, I'd consider it. For normal use, I'd take stability. But a lot of people here are running raid with only some initial glitches at setup.
