Paul's ABIT faq ... I feel as if I have it memorized

PIRQ_0 = GeForce 2 Pro (AGP)
PIRQ_1 =
PIRQ_2 = HPT370
PIRQ_3 = SBLive (PCI4) w/USB

These three items live PERFECTLY and the setup rocks. Now, I need to add NIC.

I put the card in PCI2 -or- PCI3, where PIRQ_1 is available and it _always_ takes IRQ-11, which ACPI also occupies ... instant lock when NIC drivers attempt to load.

I tried to use the MODBIN6.EXE utility to permit me to disable ACPI in the BIOS, but for some reason, the change won't save (for me).

Suggestions on how to manually assign an IRQ to the NIC and not have it conflict with ACPI is what I am looking to get. -or- any tips on how to get this darned utility to mod the BIOS so I can disable ACPI would be helpful as well.

Thanks for the thought, pederv ...

That was one of my first attempts. With the SB in PCI4, I figured that PCI 2/3 would be it, as it was not being used ... unfortunately, when I install the NIC, the BIOS automatically sets it up to share an IRQ with ACPI. I even tried to manually assing PCI 2/3 IRQ, but it still is stuck on IRQ 11 with ACPI. My thought was to disable ACPI altogether, but I can't get the BIOS edit utility to save the changes.

have you disabled serial ports, this should give you irq 3 and 4 to play with, also if you dont have a printer disable lpt and 7 is free, u can disable the dos legacy part of sblive, and that usually takes irq 5 if you dont play any dos games, you gotta figure what pci slots share irq with mass storage controller and try to aviod that slot then one or two slots sometimes share with usb, witch is usually ok.the acpi part i dont know about but i would think you would want to keep it like it is.

I'd love to, but:

COM1 = External Modem
COM2 = Serial cable for Digital Camera
LPT1 = Printer
USB = Zip Drive

I'll check the DOS Legacy thing with SBLive, but I didn't think the WinME SBLive drivers enabled this.
