KT7 RAID quickie

Heh, might be a dumb question but a quick one. Just got my KT7 RAID and there seems to be what looks like a small capacitor or something sticking out of the middle of the socket. What is this for?? Can it be removed?? I can't put my chip in there with it like that. Help!

That's a thermistor, which should press against the chip to measure the temperature.

Read the manual, it explains that you may have to bend the thermistor down a little to make the chip drop in properly.

Sorry, maybe it wasn't in the manual. Go to this site: http://go.to/kt7faq and look in the "processors" section. I think that is where I remember reading it.

Lots of other great info on the site, too.

"In the centre of the socket is a small blue component, which is raised slightly above the surface of the socket. This is the thermister that measures the temperature of the CPU. It is meant to make good contact with the underside of your CPU. It is therefore up to you to bend this component just enough for your CPU to seat itself correctly, but for there to be sufficient tension in the thermister for it to press against the underside of the CPU."

yep, from that site. Thank you very much.
