KT7-RAID and Umax Astra 3400 Scanner

Picked up the hot deal on the umax Astra 3400 scanner from buy.com in January, and finally got around to trying it out.

Nothing. Black scans.

Called UMax tech support, which told me that there are problems with the VIA Apollo KT133 chip and USB support, and I need to install a whole slew of drivers.

I went to the Viatech site, and did

Also got the lastest driver from Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/suppor...P?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0>\cf1\ulnone\par) (I'm running Win98-2nd)
but still have black scans

Anyone have this problem and fix it yet?

Ok, this is a stupid question, but u never know... have u unlocked the scanner bar? There should be a switch under the scanner which locks the scanner bar so that it doesn't shift and possibly break while in transit. Other than that i'm really unsure, have u tried different software?

I did. The scanner moves, it just doesn't pick up anything.
