My system is not working at current, the company I got the cpu & m/board from say that my generic PC100 memory is causing the problem, I have 1x64mb, 1x128mb, latency/cas unknown.

Could this cause the entire system not to work, the only think that makes me agree with them is that when I put the memory in, the system does not work, when I take it out it does the diagnostic beeps to say there is no system memory.

System spec is showm below, a local retailer reckons they are talking rubbish, any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks,

Corm

Have you tried installing just one ram module, are they both the same make? also try the ram in different slots see if that helps.Don`t forget to try the other module on it`s own as well.

if your mem latency is too low (i.e. CAS 1) it will cause the system to NOT boot...i know, i
did it...i had to clear my CMOS by removing the battery since there was no discharge jumper..

anyway, faulty memory or too low CL settings can cause a system not to boot...

put one component in at a time - i.e...just the cpu and vid card...try booting...
if it doesn't work it could be

1) motherboard shorting.
2) power supply faulty
3) memory faulty
4) CMOS needs resetting
5) video card faulty
6) CPU faulty
7) motherboard faulty
8) mobo, cpu, ram, vid card not inserted properly (read as inclusive or disjunction)

If you can get your system to boot with some faster memory, then its possible that your generic stuff will work by setting the memory to the slowest settings.
