Kt7 Blue Screen Problems. Please help.

I had this problem a few weeks ago when I tried to install an old ISA sounblaster 16 card. I kept getting blue screen errors when I hit my comp or windows explorer. I reinstalled window and go a pci sound card and the problem seemed to have disappeared.

Now I am having similar problems almost every time I use my Toshiba DVD drive I get a blue screen which reads...exception has ocurred at...in VXD. This was called from...blah blah. I have had constant instability problems and frequent blue screens. I installed the latest Via 4 in one drivers but this has not helped.

Here is my setup.

On IDE channel 1: Maxtor hard Drive and Dvd Rom drive
IDE 2: Plextor CDRW

AGP Rage Fury Pro VIVO AGP
Modem in 3rd PCI slot
Sound card in 5th PCI slot.

I also installed a pinnacle tv tuner card but have subsequently removed this component as even though it worked it gave me more blue screens even when I clicked My Computer or explorer.

Please help...this is incredibly irritating.

Yup...couldn't find the solution there! I would hate to reinstall windows again and then the same problem will probably reoccur.

try putting the hardrive on a seperate cable.
you don't want to put a cd drive on the same cable as the hardrive.
then if that works then when you copy cd it might not go since the two drives are on the same cable. If that is the case than you have to copy the image to the hd and then burn it form there

I tried installing my modem in PCI 6 and my sound card in PCI 4 - but this did not solve the problem. I then removed the dvd rom drive from IDE1 and set it as a slave on IDE 2...still no luck. I then disconnected my CDRW drive so the dvd drive was by itself on IDE 2...but still got blue screens when I tried to access data cd-roms. Funny thing though is that I tried a dvd and it booted up and played it!! I've tried a few different data cd's and they all freeze my computer. This was working previously so I'm almost sure my dvd drive is not broken. Any idea?

When I switched the modem it was still using IRQ 5 with my sound card and some other devices?
