KT333 vs Nforce2

Have a Epox 8K3A+ KT333 and am thinking about buying a used MSI K7N2G-L(this a good board?) for $60 shipped. Anyway would I see much difference performance wise? Currently running a 1600+@2100 default voltage at 166FSB.

Wish it had onboard soundstorm but it doesnt. Also am running OCZ PC3200 ram on my current KT333. Would dual channel give me a good boost of performance alone?

Thanks

Would it be $60.00 worth of increase in performace. I dont think so. Where you get a decent upshot with the NF2 is in its compatability with 200fsb cpu out of the box. So in the future if you want to go with a 200fsb cpu then you have head room. If on the other hand your next upgrade will be to a 64 then stay with what you have, and save the money.

Well I had planned on selling my current board so it won't be $60 maybe $20 or so after selling the Epox. As for going with AMD's new 64bit CPU when it comes it won't be for a long while after prices drop alot.

Sniper, I'd spend a tad more to make sure I'm getting a quality Abit, Asus, or EPoX board (8RDA+ boards are still available in some stores for about $80, and they have the nforce audio). Oh ya, your current board is already really nice, as was it's predecessor, the 266A based 8KHA+.

If its a $20 upgrade then go for it. If you do not plan on a full upgrade soon, then the NF2 would be a better choice, because it allows other small upgrades along the way like a new CPU to tie you over. Dual DDR is just gravy 🙂.

MSI crap?? explain.........Abit is crap........unreliable ....horrible RMA.......I've had too many bad Abit boards in the past.

the last abit mobo i owned was a BH6 and i must say, that is one of the best mobos i have ever owned

I owned a MSI KT3 Ultra 2 and went to an Asus A7N8X DLX some how I gained about 2000 points in 3d mark just from that seemed pretty decent IMO. so if u can get the board for a good price sure go for it. Like the others said got for Abit, Epox or Asus all are awsome.

These boards are still $100 on Newegg any idea why? After seeing that $60 shipped seems like a decent deal. Hows MSI's RMA and do you give any hassle?

Me too (Delta Version)...I think it's a fantastic board....upgraded from a KT333 in June and am very very happy.....(changed from a Athlon XP 1800+ to Barton 2500+)

I have Owned Intel, FIC, Abit, Asus & Biostar boards....this has been the best.

All things being equal, you'll see a performance increase in 3D games, but not anything signficant in other areas. I do think its a worthy upgrade, though, because nForce2 makes it so much easier to overclock than the crap VIA puts out.
