Hey guys~

My friends and many people I've met online are having problems with their motherboard...

Many people with Gigabyte 7VRXP, Soyo Dragon Ultra Platinum Edition, MSI KT333 Ultra motherboards can't get their AXP 2000+ or AXP 2100+ to boot up at 133 FSB. They said it won't even get to the BIOS screen. So when they change it back to 100 FSB, it works fine. Their heatsink is installed correctly. Most of them are running Thermaltake Volcano 7+.

First thing I asked them was what kind of power supply they were using. Many of them were using 320W, 360W with combined output of 3.3v and 5v rails being less than 200W. Although they pass the 180w minimum requirement, they didn't pass the 200W AMD's recommendation. However, another person said he couldn't hit the 133 FSB with his 400w Power Supply..

What could it be causing this problem? Please let me know. Thanks!!!

Have them post here on an individual basis, with their exact system specs. There are lots of possible causes, ranging from boards that require an RPM reading on the CPU-fan header, to jumper issues, to boards needing BIOS updates, to boards getting grounded out because people didn't use a plastic stud in a certain hole as required, and so on. And with the prices of 400W power supplies ranging from $15 to $100+, you know not all 400W PSU's are created equal. ;)

Well... They were using the latest BIOS. Their temps were well below 45C's...

That is so true. But when I mentioned this to those people, some people took it as an offense and told me I'm not willing to go spend more money on a power supply. They said they will just RMA their motherboard back... Their combined output for 3.3v and 5v rails were usually below 200W (AMD recommended), but some people with higher than 200W were still having the same problems... I really don't get why.

Any suggestions guys?

Huh. Well, if they scorn sensible suggestions like that, don't bother trying to help them further. ;) And I take back my suggestion that you have them post their problems here, if they don't want their power supplies called into question. It's one thing they're sure to get asked about, and the last thing we need is a bunch of huffy Junior members berating us for obsessing about power-supply quality :D

To do a quote, type {q} blah blah blah {/q}, except use the [ ] instead of { } :)
