I just put together the MSI version of this motherboard, a 40GB Seagate HDD, 1.47Ghz XP, SB Live! and XP Pro. It's a totally fresh install with all of the latest Via drivers, BIOS updates and Windows updates installed. But, because things never go over smooth for me, I have no sound. Well, I do have sound...but if you call high pitched ringing sound then I guess I'm ok. Seriously, everytime my PC plays a wave, mp3 or anything else with sound all I get is a high pitched ringing from my speakers. I tried Creative's site to check if they had any SB Live! drivers for XP but there was nothing available. That's Creative for ya. :) I also made sure that the onboard sound was disabled as well. Anyone else have this problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same probem. It's an IRQ conflict of sorts.

Move your SB Live! into a different PCI slot.

Fix what? There was no problem to begin with. It sounds like you have your micronphone volume turned up really high, do you happen to have a microphone installed?

The IRQ conflict was the problem. I don't know why I didn't think of this before. Kind of a common problem, just a different error. You would think by XP that Microsoft would have this whole IRQ thing licked. ;) Guess not. Thanks again Skot.
