Nice find! Seems like Axion Tech was also the first to list the Athlon XPs. I wonder why they offer this stuff so far ahead of everyone else. I'm sure it's good for sales...especially to us that are just dying to get one ASAP!

Nice try, PeteyPete. You get an "A" for effort!

ETA: 10/15/2001

Translation: We expect them in on the 15th. On the 16th, our supplier will call us to say "we're running a little late..."and they'll hang up. Two weeks later, you'll call us asking why the $%@! you haven't received your KT266A mobo. We'll tell you "um, we don't have them".

Real world: KT266A boards will be available, in bulk, to the general public (i.e. you and I) sometime in November. Maybe.

One retail store I spoke with said they expected the new Shuttle KT266A in a week or so, and furthermore, said the price would probably be similar to R2(<$100).

I'm taking all that with a huge grain of salt, but still, fingers are crossed.

tjl out

Personally if Asus releases a Sis 735 motherboard or leadtek releasing a good one soon illl probably end of getting that. in games at higher rez doesnt matter how fast your mobo is. its limited to how fast you video card is

and personally im somewhat tired of VIA :p

MichaelD:

I've heard quite the opposite - most of the places I spoke with said the boards would be shipping (or in stores) by the 15th. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Hey, check out Pricewatch.com! United Micro just added their Epox version combos for good prices! This must have just been added, cause I just searched on there this morning for "KT266A" and found nothing until now. They must be shipping out now!

Two weeks ago there were several posts from similar optimists that the KT266as would be out by Sept, 28th....

Anyway I hope you're right about the 15th, the sooner real people can get the boards, the sooner the message board will be flooded with people having problems, therebye making the K7S5A not look so bad after all.

:)

"its a via chipset... im going to avoid it like the plague anyways "

Oh geez, not yet ANOTHER person that doesn't know what they're talking about...*sigh*

Just so I know I said it, I have never EVER had a problem with the VIA chipsets EVER. Im on a KT133 right now running at 12.5x104 pushing my 1Ghz Athlon to 1300mhz without so much as a hiccup... so please, do us all a favor, either admit that you just don't know what the hell your doing or just STFU.

Apparently, the Humor and Take it Lightly Chips in some folks' mobos aren't functioning well today. As DeadParrotSkech pointed out, there have been other "Yeah, it'll be out on the xx" forecasts lately. Who cares about the exact date? When it gets here, it gets here. That was the whole point of my "sarcastic" post. Sigh..........release dates are seldom adhered to.

And BTW, all the "Oh yeah, MichaelD? I called my friend Joe over at Joe's Hoes and Mobos and he says he'll have the board by the 15th" statements are totally worthless. Know why? Here's why: they are ASSUMING they will have them by the 15th. When you have one of these physically in your hands on the 15th, then you can talk all the smack you want. Until then, STFU>:p

There may be VIA compatability issues as noted on several "tech sites", however, I would have to agree with KDOG that I am on a KT133A mobo with a SB Live! and have also never experienced any issues. It's been incredibly stable. I think if we all drove Ford vehicles we'd have a lot of people having trouble with Ford if you know what I mean. We all (or most) use VIA chipsets, therefore, if we experience problems with anything, we can blame it for all of them. Being in computers for as long as I have, I've learned there are a lot of variables and configurations that can cause problems, regardless of what chipset you use. Don't tell me that SIS is total perfection, cause I've seen a lot of threads starting like this "Trouble with ECS K7S5A..." or something to that effect. You know another thing we almost all have is Windows...hmmm.

This is so true, but give me a selection of OS's like the selection Motheboards, or chipsets, and then I would be happy...

As far as the Via issues, I gave them a shot, and the only really problem I have(even with the infamous Live/VIA/GF2/3 combo), is D3D programs... Sometimes it runs all night, and sometimes for only 10 minutes.... Have they ever figured this one out?

you're right, there really are no stability/compatibility issues with past Via chipsets. not.
>>

so every other mobo except Via has always been 100% compatible with everything. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stability is based on the user's capability of setting it up properly (if you can't , I agree you should not buy one), and besides the SB Live!/686B south bridge, which was fixed BTW, there aren't any other recent incompatibilities.

And the KT266A doesn't even use that south bridge...

If I'm a little behind, forgive me, but what SB is it going to use? And what does it improve, besides of course the flaws of the 686B?

It uses the newer VT8233 south bridge. (uses the VLink connection to the north bridge...)

I'm in the market, and I'm still wieghing all my options... but the SIS735 is definitely on my list.... I'm waiting for Asus to release their version of SIS735, the A7S266...

Haven't ruled out anything yet...

its funny how people will respond to things making assumptions... i never said there was any problems with VIA chipsets at all, just that i strongly avoid them. I didnt even say anyone else should. Oh, and my main computer i run at home right now has a KT133 chipset, and i do have it running rock stable. bust since i use this stuff all the time and have had exerience with many different types of hardware, i much perfer other companies over VIA. When your selling a cusom built computer, you want it to be easy as possible for the end user, and keep as much frustration away from them as possible.

And how do you know when it will come out. Obviously it seems it will be around October 15th. But how many times have ETA's been pushed back. So who's statement is totally worthless now.;)
