Hello:
I am currently running an EPOX 8KHAL mainboard (KT266A) with a Palamino core Athlon XP 1800+ processor, 512MB PC2100 RAM.
I am interested in a performance upgrade, but I am putting off purchasing a new m/b until the new socket platforms are released. I have come up with two options:
1. Athlon 2400+ TBred (266 FSB)
or:
2. Athlon 2400+ Barton Mobile (266 FSB)
I think with the right cooling I could run the mobile at a high multiplier at 2GHz or beyond, while using a 266 FSB to utilize my current RAM. I contacted EPOX and their official response was that "mobile processors are not supported in this motherboard."
Can I do it? I was not aware the chip was any different except for the lower voltages it was capable of operating at.
Thanks in advance for any help the members of this forum can provide. I am a long time computer nerd but relatively new to overclocking!
Mike
