I searched like mad on these slow forums (today) and even AmdMB.com, and did not find an update OS install guide for me Epox 8KHA+.

There are many BIOS setup guides, but no OS "order" with lots of consistant responses that I could find.

So, if I can remember back in October how I did it:

Windows 98SE:

-Install OS.
-Install latest 4-in-1's (Which ones are most reliable currently?).
-Install latest DirectX.
-Install latest Video. (I have an Asus V7100 32MB MX400, should I do Nvida's or Asus's drivers?)
-Install NIC if not detected.
-Install all appropriate Windaz Updates.
-Install drivers for any other left over devices.
-Install Applications.

Windows 2000 Professional:

-Install OS.
-Install latest 4-in-1's (Which ones are most reliable currently?).
-Install Service Pack 2
-Install latest DirectX.
-Install latest Video.
-Install NIC if not detected.
-Install all appropriate Windaz Updates and Hotfixes (SRP1)
-Install drivers for any other left over devices.
-Install Applications.

Windows XP Professional:

-Install OS.
-Install latest 4-in-1's (Which ones are most reliable currently?).
-Install latest Windaz Updates.
-Install latest DirectX.
-Install latest Video.
-Install NIC if not detected.
-Install drivers for any other left over devices.
-Install Applications.

Which order have you found most successful with these Oses? No newbs with one install of XP Home to their name are allowed to proclaim they have the best order. :D

Thanks!

Your recommendation for the order of installation look good. But my personally preference for
Windows 2000 Professional or Server:

-Install OS.
-Install latest 4-in-1's (Which ones are most reliable currently?).
-Install Service Pack 2
-Install latest Video.
-Install NIC if not detected.
-Install latest DirectX.
-Install all appropriate Windaz Updates and Hotfixes (SRP1)
-Install drivers for any other left over devices.
-Install Applications.

Windows XP w/ 8KHA+ and XP 1600 (oc'd to be an 1800)

- install OS
- install via INF only
- reboot
- install via AGP 4.10
- reboot
- windows updates
- reboot
- install video
- reboot
- install sound
- install all other drivers
- install software

Works every time, my NIC is always detected with the latest drivers, so that's done, other than that, I just isntall my TV Wonder. and no need for directx updates, since xp has the latest.

Why not just make a new Win2K CD with SP2 integrated so you install Win2K right off the bat..?

I just put together my system tonight and am about ready to fire it up. I have the same questions about OS install with XP Pro. and drivers and such.
I would also like to know IF I need to change any bios settings so it will find the CD to boot it up. and Do I need to install the Disk that came with the CD and Hard drive, or if XP takes care of all that. I am not over-clocking anything.

Windows has drivers to find your cd-rom and standard components. Your manufacturer's driver may be faster but you don't generally need those.

I installed XP, then 4in1's, and I was done.

in Linux I installed Debian, compiled a new kernel, and I was done :)
