Im about to upgrade from a kt133a board to a kt266a.

my question is how much of a performance increase should I see with this upgrade?

assuming I have 512MB PC133 on the kt133a, and the kt266a would be 512MB pc2100.

both would have a XP 1800+ processor in case that affects scaling. Alo both systems using win2k, or win XP

everything else being equal. I wasnt able to find any benchmarks on this.

thanks,

Why not go to KT333?
Should see even more improvement.

I'm getting an upgrade itch, been looking at a Soltek KT333 board. But I dunno.

because i have found kt266a vs kt333 reviews, and the performance diference is so insignificanr its not worth spending the extra $50-70 it would take to get the board and ram i would want with that setup.

Fair enough. Just wondering. :)

I've never had a 133a board, but the jump from SDRAM to DDR should provide you with a nice increase in performance.

Check around for KT133a reviews, find ones which use similar benchmarking tools as with a 266a review, see how they stack up.

In benchmarks you will gain a few points, everyday applications you won't notice a thing. Why waste money?

I personally went from an MSI K7T Turbo LE to a Giga-Byte 7VTXH+

I noticed that game performance (Half-Life, DOD, CS, Quake 3, UT + Mods, Giants, MOHAA, RTCW) all seemed to play much smoother, of course the when benchmarked the numbers were only a few points higher, but it still seemed to run much much smoother for me. ;)

Look at my rig. I went from my old comp to this new one. Yea, a bigger upgrade then yours, but I notice a huge increase. :)

I don't think you'll need to upgrade if you're running xp1800 with 512sdram.

thanks for the replies.

I was just having last minute second thoughts on spending the moolah for the new rig. The bottom line is I still need another computer, and wanted to slightly upgrade the current one. So i spent the $600. Im sure Ill be happy.

All right. Good luck with your new system.

But i just wanted to add that when i moved to DDR from SDR (athlon from a K6-2), I honestly didn't notice any difference in real-world operations (except in gaming, and there are other factors involved).
