kt133a system bus question

I just installed a gigabyte ga-7zxe board with an athlon xp 1700. In the motherboard manual there is a system bus jumper to select either 100 or 133 cpu clock. I am using pc 133 memory if that matters. What is the normal setting for the system bus speed?

I did set it for 133( since the memory was pc133) but after a while - 30 min- the heatsink was pretty hot and so was the fan. Is this 133 setting considered overclocked?

The manual has no info on this, could someone tell me the proper setting or point me to some material that will educate me on this? Thank you for any assistance.

your xp1700+ is designed to run on a 133mhz fsb

if you run it on a 100mhz fsb you will be underclocking it
athlonxp 1700+ is actually 1466mhz and it gets that by an 11x multiplier times the 133mhz fsb or 11x133=1466mhz.... if you run it on a 100mhz fsb you will only get a speed of 11x100=1100mhz, which is way underclocked 🙂

you should set both your fsb and your memory to run 133mhz
