KT133 Chipset and a Jerky Mouse

Hi all (my first post at forums.anandtech.com !!!!)

I've just upgraded from a TX motherboard / K6-200
to a MSI K7T Pro2a / Duron 600 setup.

While I am happy with the new hardware, one thing that
does annoy me is how jerky the mouse is compared to my
old system especially when I am doing something
(cpu or harddrive?)intensive (like compiling a large VC++
project) - the mouse does not move smoothly - it skips
and jumps over the screen. On my old system the mouse moved
smoothly no matter what the other hardware was doing.

My question is whether this is a 'feature' of the kt133
chipset or do I have a hardware conflict or some such thing?

My mouse is plugged into a USB port.

mine (abit kt7 non-raid, duron 700 @ 900) does the same thing with dma enabled (for the harddrive), but when I turn dma off, it doesn't seem to do it at all. my hdtach scores are very low without dma on, but the computer seems to run better with it off. I sure wish I could turn dma on though. I would like any input from anyone on how to fix this too. (by the way, i'm using a PS/2 mouse, not USB)

Some time later
I've been having the same problem with a msi k7t2a, duron 600, not overclocked yet, v5500, sb live, ibm 75gxp 30 gig, 256 meg of ram, modem, win 98se, via drivers 4.28, ide 3.11. After trying things here and there, when I got a chance, decided to disable Mcafee anti virus and guess what? My system sped up, the jerky mouse movement disappeared(started acting like a 600 should and not a 486 dx 66). This might be worth a try if you are running an anti virus program.:D

Had the same problem when i installed my first via board (CUV4X).
Who isn't running a hard-drive without DMA turned on... :)
