KT-7 or KT7-Raid for Tbird?

What exactly is the raid supposed to do? I will not be doing any overclocking. I don't quite understand what the raid thing is all about. Can you help me here? I have an AMD 1100 Tbird and I want a real good motherboard.

Forget the raid, its great, but the good thing about this board is eight ide devices at once and four of them at ATA100. I love my Abit KT7 raid!

seriously, if you don't do any overclocking, why go and get a board that is so expensive. Unless you need the raid controller (either for the raid function or the 8 devices support), I would say MSI K7T Pro. It is one of the most stable KT133 board we have tested!

MSI K7T Pro

To answer your question, there are several things you can do with raid. for the KT7, raid 0 means you use 2 hard drives and effectively increase your transfer rate. raid 1 means with 2 hard drives, where one is the duplicate of the other. raid 0+1 is the combination of both. you probably don't need the raid.

buy the RAID for several reasons.
1. More IDE devices
2. ATA 100/UDMA 5 Support for future IDE hdd
3. RAID is a nice feature to have built in

4. MOST IMPORTANTLY:The dumb people of Abit made the onboard IDE controller ATA 33, NOT 66, you will lose hdd performance on modern drives.

wait a few days and get the msi kt7 pro2. it's as stable as the kt7 pro, but also has the option of overclocking in the future.

Just a little thought. If he is not overclocking, there is no real need to pay the extra bucks to get Pro2, where the main features are the multiplier and FSB settings. Sure the Pro2 is even more stable, but to me (not a perfection), Pro1 is good enough. Remember it powers 4 of our AnandTech Servers 🙂

But I do agree Pro2 is an awesome board. Just my 2 cents.

Techwhore,

How did you get your SB Live to work with the KT7-Raid?
So far, all I've been able to get is static, pops and crackles.

I'm using Win98 currently.

Did you have to do anything special?
