KT 266A chipset doesn't recognize my CD-R

I have had two motherboards with the KT266A chipset, the Soltek and the Epox. Neither recognizes my Smart & Friendly CD-R. I have installed the IDE tool as well as the driver that is supposed to stop incompatibility issues. The CD-R worked fine on my ECS mainboard. Any suggestions?

Yah, get rid of the smart and friendly CD drive 🙂 Seriously, whenever I've come across them I've had nothing but problems. Perhaps I've just had bad luck with them, but in my experiance they are neither smart nor friendly. Anyway, if its an IDE drive try the normal stuff, single drive on its own IDE channel or cable select. If you can't isolate it, try it as both a master and a slave.

That's like going to a Ferarri dealership and complaining that they don't have part for my Plymouth Volare or Dodge Aspin. Dude give it up.

older CD-Rs have a lot of issues, I had to keep my mitsumi one on a separate IDE channel on all boards I tried it on.
