If you have one of these locks, you should obviously consider replacing it. If you have had a bike stolen when using one, you're also entitled to financial relief.

Now that's a cool settlement, unlike the phony IBM settlement.
I have 2 u-locks with tubular cylinders, but it turns out I got them from Nashbar and they aren't covered.
Well, at least now I know they aren't safe against a knowledgeable thief. Bummer.

I was happy to find that my Nashbar U-locks don't have that weak spot.

Damn I heard it was easy but not THAT easy!! :Q

Btw engadget.com is a great site, good rss feed too.

I think I still have my old Kyrpto....it's like 10yrs old...tubular lock mech....if I find it, I might replace it....

Edit: Just watched video.... my lock's outer casing solid ...I peeled back the cover 1/2...there is no place to stick a bic-pen like shown in the video.

So you're saying you have a combination-style Krypto lock, then, right? Because if your lock has a tubular key, you know....the round one, then you DO have a place to stick the pen. The pen sticks into the KEYWAY in the lock......where you put your key to unlock the lock.

I get it now. The Bic barrel is the same diameter as the key, and works just as well.

I can't find any references to picking the Nashbar locks with a Bic.

As did I, but while I have the lock, police report, etc, I'm pretty sure I don't have my original receipt for the lock itself... in fact, almost positive.

It doesn't look like you need the receipt if you are excahnging the lock in option A. Am I reading this correctly?

I hate it when companies require a receipt especially for a product that is several years old. If everyone saved every receipt they collected then they would need a warehouse to store them all. Just another way to deny people a claim and not pay out.

Seems like the exchange is possible without receipt. I'm going to double-check that I have a tubular lock (pretty sure) and then go through the steps when I'm home tonight. Nice that they cover shipping charges, too.

I'm glad my wife has been using our steel cable lock instead of the U-lock lately!
