I have this stuck Kryptonite u-lock which is luckily not locked to the bike. Basically, when I last unlocked it, I put the lock back together and turned the key, but only one bar was stuck into the crosspiece. The other was sticking out, but it locked okay, so I didn't notice.

When I tried to unlock it ten minutes later, the key wouldn't turn. Eventually I pulled the one bar out of the crosspiece, but it still won't unlock. I haven't used this thing for very long, but it has been exposed to rain and whatnot. It's not the key, since the spare key won't work either.

I'm not in the US, so I can't take the lock back to where I bought it. Anyone ever fix a problem like this?

Hmm. I wouldn't figure it would need lubricant since it's only been three weeks since I opened the lock package. Worth a shot, though. I doubt I can buy WD-40 locally, but there's gotta be some kind of lubricant I can find. Thanks.

kinda funny that you say this...i had a friend use a kryptonite u-lock on his motorcycle and the cylinder on the lock ended up seizing up on him and he had to call a locksmith. $80 later, he had the lock off and a paint chipped rim.

WD-40 is a controlled substance where you live? :D

Any lubricant spray will work if that's the problem. I've had U-locks go funny, but always managed to wiggle them enough to get them open again.

My new policy is not to ride a bike expensive enough to justify a U-lock ;)
