Downgrade. KyroII currently has bad performance in Tribes2, hopefully DirectX 8.1 will fix it. Or other patches. But the only card that is better than yours right now is a GeForce 3.

I agree with AkulaShark if Tribes 2 is the only game that you're interested in. However, read Anandtech's review of the Kyro II for some comparisons to the Radeon 64MB DDR in other games. I think you'll find that the Kyro performs quite favorably to the Radeon card.

Again, if Tribes 2 is the only game you need better performance in, then the Kyro is probably not the card for you.

What kind of performance are you getting from the RadeonDDR64 on Tribes 2? On an overclocked Geforce GTS 32mb card running on a Duron 900 I'm only getting 20-45ish frames. On average the framerate isn't acceptable as 25 frames isn't too acceptable to me and I've tweaked the system quite a bit. This is at 1024 x 768 with some options on max but most set around 75% of max, no sky, no - low shadows.

Regarding the Kyro II and Tribes 2, here is a statement from PowerVR taken from Planettribes.com:
Microsoft's DirectX 8.1 is aiming to fix issues with the Kyro 2. Under the beta of DX8.1, my Kyro 2 testbed's FPS improved by 5-10 fps. Also, a PowerVR representative informed me that the future Kyro 2 drivers are going to be designed with Tribes 2 in mind. Just though I'd share that info.

If someone out there is running Tribes 2 on their Kyro II at 1024x768 or higher (I doubt higher..) at 35 frames average or so with almost max settings, please give your system specs and describe performance. Tribes 2 is an awesome game but it's really hindered by it's insane requirements as the minimum specs required to play T2 on the box is something to laugh at.

actually it is an upgrade !
kyro 2 with that 1 ghz athlon will get to geforce 2 pro level..
if you put directx7 ...

the forum administrator of planet tribes got with an athlon 1,2 geforce 2 ultra level with a kyro 2...
when he put directx8 he start getting pro level ...
so it's an upgrade...

I guess that ST fells that tribes 2 could be good to show off the power of tile based rendering .
so you will get (when directx8.1 final is out) geforce 2 ultra performance with kyro 2...

there must be tremendous overdraw on that game...
kyro 2 is penalised because of the directx8.

I'd call it an upgrade, BUT not one I would reccomend making! The performance difference on todays K2 drivers will be tiny compared to the outlay.ie not worth the hassle!

I played Tribes 2 at 1280 on my 64 MB Radeon and didn't notice it being slow, what resolution do you run it at? It's not that good of a game anyway! =)

tribes 2 is a cpu intensive game...
maybe when there is enough fill rate (the case of kyro, and maybe radeon) the cpu will be the bottleneck... so you will not see any big difference (if you use directx7, there are some kyro 2 features that get emulated by the cpu in directx8, so kyro 2 need more cpu time in directx8).
