Ok - I just drove past it this morning, and heard an ad for $45 unlimited wireless / text messaging, etc. Looked like a great deal, but I thought I'd ask you cheap bastards.

Yes, I have that. Works fine in the calling area. If you leave the calling area, your phone simply doesn't work, unless you put money into the Flex Bucket for pre-paid roaming.

Their reception areas are very limited (at least in Colorado), their phones used to suck (I think they are getting better now, but you will pay more for one of their phones than for a national carriers phones). And you only get free calling in your home "area" - in some states the home "area" is a certain gepgraphic area, in other states the home "area" is the entire state. Regardless, if you take your phone outside that area, the minutes are so expensive that you will likely never bother to take your phone with you on vacation.

My girlfriend used to have Cricket, but switched to T-Mobile after we went on a road trip and my phone worked 90% of the time, and her phone worked less than 20% of the time.

If you are a teenager that is just basically calling other people in your town it's fine.

If you actually travel outside of your local area, get a real provider.

I get an average of 500 test messages per month. I have another phone contract, and I love that phone... but for business I never leave the city... hardly.

I went with Cricket because many of my friends and family are 2 hours ahead of me. I can't wait for some "night and weekend" plan to call them. It's very nice not having a contract, minutes, or limits on my calling.
