KR7A-RAID owners: What do you think about this board now?

I'm still looking very seriously about getting this board, and I am looking for some input from current owners on their experiences with the board. I plan to take advantage of the RAID function, as well as all 6 PCI slots, and of course some overclocking.

I bought KR7ARAID board when it first came out. Except for some BIOS irritations, it's been a fine and stable board.

At that time, this board had few RAID-equipped competitors. That's no longer the case.

I wanted the RAID-equipped board only for the 4 ide ports, couldn't care less about ATA133 or operation in any RAID mode.

If I were buying today, I'd probably buy the Shuttle AK35GTR, based on reviews, price and similar features.

Also, I thought I saw a news post about Epox coming out soon with a board with 2 on-board Raid controllers.

This is not my first Abit board, but there's nothing magical in a brand name.

Hope this helps!

I'm seriously looking at this board as well, I'm torn between it and the MSI KT266A raid Pro RU allthough now leaning more towards the Abit KR7A-RAID due to its better performance (as per the benchmarks in the reviews I've read so far have said).

But in real life situations, how does it perform??????

I'd be very surprised if you see a "real world" difference in speed of these two boards. (Usually need benchmark tool to see it)

However, there is (IMO) a very "real" hardware difference.... as big as the $$ difference? Well, that is an individual choice.....

(I chose ABit, but an earlier model)

Hey MarkyMark~

I am about to buy an Abit KR7-133RAID. I have heard and read a lot of really bad stuff about both the MSI KT7266-R (via 266) and the KT7266A Pro-R (via 266A). I have a friend that bought the Pro edition with the 266A and he wishes he hadn't--man, let me tell you about hardware conflicts! I have made up my personal mind to stay far away from MSI.

GO ABIT and never look back...

I too bought this board shortly after it's debut. At the time there were four board options that I seriously considered, the KR7A-Raid, the A7V266E, the 8kha+ and the Soyo Dragon. I was not very farmiliar with soyo, and quite frankly the color shceme irritated me, the 8kha+ seemed to have DOA problems at the time. This left me to choose between the Abit and the Asus. I ultimately opted for the ABIT because I had been happy with previous boards of theirs that I have owned. I am still convinced that the ASUS would have been a fine choice, but I have been completely satisfied with the KR7A, I have never had an unexplained crash (I had a few SBlive / Win XP driver problems at first, but those were easily fixed - was not Abit's fault)

In short, I have been extremely satisfied with the KR7A, It has been stable and fast to boot.

Oh - Just make sure that when you install you push the ram in fully (it sometimes requires a lot of force) and that the thermistor clears the bottom of your CPU.

Hope I was able to help

Hey Epsil0n00

Thanks a million for the heads up man, my brother in law just took possession of that MSI KT266A raid Pro RU board and no conflicts. He's really good with his brain and hands (he's an electrical engineer) so if he has problems I'm sure he'll be able to work through them. As for me I'm not that good so although the Abit is more expensive, I think I'll go Abit Mobo.
