They can be very small and very light, I have a PM45.

Small and light however are probably not what you should be buying for your wife unless she is already quite experienced.

The recoil on the PM45 is barely manageable, and absolutely punishing to put a serious amount of ammo through.

I shot a .25 Beretta before and thought it was kind of puny. They asked me if I wanted to try the .45/75 and I told them F no!
Wednesday, we went shooting. She shot a .357 with .38s and .357 loads. She felt the .357 was too heavy.
She shot a .38 with a 2" barrel and liked that. She really liked the Kimber .45 with a .22 conversion kit and Crimson Trace grips.

She's a really good shot. .45s too big for her. .38/.380/9mm is what I am looking at.

Wow short barrel = more recoil.
I'm always concerned about the noise though. ;)
Big guns are stupid loud! :D

That's why I chose knife throwing instead. :p

Are you looking for something carry sized? My brother has a MK9, it's a much more pleasant gun to shoot compared to mine. Smaller round + heavier gun.

It's also marginally smaller than the PM45, essentially just a few mm thinner and shorter.

Carry sized. DS/SA. I am going to go look at them here in a bit.
Though the KAHRs may be DAO.
Sig 239 looks OK.

like car

smaller and lighter = more felt recoil.

I really like my CZ P-01 in 9mm. It's a compact 3" barrel, alloy frame.

One downside is that the slide sits inside the frame instead of outside, so there's less room to grip.

Like the gun?
car

If the dudes at my local gun store are any indication. Of course, they could all be wrong. Apparently Koch is pronounced cook.
We've all been saying cock.

yup, car, I have the PM40 (sub compact) I wouldn't say it kicks like a mule, but 100 rounds and you'll want to take a break. A woman might not make it that far.

From what I've seen Kahr does make about every increment in size going from full frame down to sub compact in 9mm .40 and .45 cal. I'm sure one of them will make the wife happy.

Khar's are nice but pricey. Can be up to $1000 retail.

My favorite carry gun is the popular Ruger LCP. Cheap, thin, small, light, easy to shoot. < $300.

You want a Beretta 86FS. Or two of them, so you can be Trinity in the Matrix.

Only suckers pay retail. The price to beat is usually from buds and depending on model can get up to the 1k, but that isn't very special when you have a market with brands like sig and hk. A P9 can be like 600 bucks, a PM9, 700. There is also a cool guy named steve over in the sig forums that has kahrs. I think his username is 220st.

I have a Kahr PM9. I pronounce it Car. I'll go home and look at the manual to see if it has the correct pronunciation.

I recommend against the small models for women who think "small guns" are good. No, small guns are bad because now there is more recoil. The K9 would be nice though and I'm thinking of picking up one of those.

Wife wants a handgun. I hear they are on the smaller size.

I love my LCP, had to sell it when I moved to Boston though. I hear they are coming out with a 9mm version...that's exactly what I'd buy.

.25 is puny, .380 or 9mm is the way to go.
