So, when can we purchase the first three Fallouts again? Soon, according to Bethesda Softworks, who recently announced on Twitter that they're already working on bringing the games back to Steam—though when asked about GOG, the company maintained that their "current priority is to return the games to Steam," neither confirming nor denying whether the games would be back on GOG. Hopefully, they'll get right on that as soon as possible.

Wow. What douches.
Just in case I didn't plan on buying any games form them, they made sure of it.

Screw Steam, give us DRM free games.
Thankfully I already got the Fallout games on GoG.com, even before they were given away for free. And thankfully none of that money went to Bethesda.

what are you pissed about? they are bringing the games back. the had to remove all the old publisher info first.
if you already have the games, nothing changed.

They are focusing on bringing the games back to Steam, which is a douchebag move. They should bring them back to all services at the same time, or favour the one which is best for the consumer, which is GoG, since it doesn't have DRM and if this sort of thing happens again, consumers are protected.

What I am about to say isn't targeted specifically at this situation here: Doesn't Steam have enough clout to put it in their contract with the publishers/developers that they can't do things like this? First and foremost, I am talking about making sure that purchased games can never be removed from a library, moreso than whether they can be removed from being available to buy.

I know there was an online only game they recently removed since it wasn't going to be playable anymore, but really that's a gray area, I'm focusing on the heart of the matter; which would for example be like say, they remove the Fallout games from your already purchased library - assuming that's not already in Steam's contract with publishers, don't they have the clout to force it on them for consumer protection?

See the "You are not buying games on Steam" thread. The sad truth is that all these big brothers - Steam, uplay, Origin etc. - mean that like the internet itself (which is owned by your NSA as we've seen, hehe) paying for a game and OWNING a game don't always go together, despite our instincts (and memories of old) telling us otherwise.

If you saw that thread, did you see the part where Steam did not remove the working single-player, only the online part that no longer has servers? The article author was wrong and the OP here never fixed the title.

Also, Steam and GoG have just stopped selling new copies. My already-purchased Fallouts are still there in my GoG library and I'm guessing that's true for Steam too.

Bethesda is working on a Bethesda-branded Steam version first because they know Steam will sell a lot more copies than GoG. The time to rabble rabble is if Bethesda stops after Steam.

What they didn't consider is that with the added visibility (if there is any) people will just go pirate them since they can't legally buy them to see what all the fuss is about.

They made a big fuss when they could have just made the "new" versions and replaced them when they were available, instead of "we're pulling these off the shelves" move. Just makes them look like asses like every other game publisher.

Mine too, but, what I was getting at is, I mean our EULA with Steam is one thing, but it's actually two separate issues. It might be a mistake one day but for the moment I will assume that Steam will not screw people out of purchase games of their own volition; what I'm wondering is if in Steam's contract with publishers, are purchased games protected against the publisher ever pulling it from libraries and Steam can't stop it?

You know what ticks me off more than companies playing games with titles you've already purchased? It's tech sites and posters who should know better, treating Kotaku like a legitimate tech news site.

If you look at the link i posted from when I made the original thread about GOG pulling it, you will see that the Kotaku article is correct.

Which has nothing to do with being a legitimate site. Do you rely on the onion for world or national news?
