Looks like trouble in Kosovo again.

Nato should have never gotten their hands on kosovo in the first place, and there wouldn't have been this problem...

Well, I guess we'll see how this pans out. i think something is big is going to happen though; what it is, I'm not so sure.

it wouldnt have happened like that, but what would have happened is that a whole nation of people would have been wiped out

The widespread reports of ethnic cleansing and mass graves turned out to be fabricated. Both sides were also equally guilty of killing innocents. The whole thing was nothing more than a civil war, until NATO stepped in. Its almost exactly like Russia vs the Chechen(sp?) rebels.

Death toll is up to at least 31, with minimum 500 injured. Many serb houses and at least 16 (very old) churches have been destroyed.

People in Serbia proper are rioting, and a mosque has been burned down. police removed protestors from US and albanian embassies (embassys?).

some villages have been completely evacuated by serbs, as KFOR can not protect them there.

Man if B.J Clinton and his stooge Wesley Clark hadn't screwed up Kosovo like they did we wouldn't be in this situation.

We should have never interfered in their civil war. Because thats what it was and still is.

That I agree on. I think Kosovo was a mistake on Clinton's part. Pales in comparison to Iraq, but still a mistake.

The lead up to both wars were full of fabrications and exagerations. Intel failures abound in both wars as well. Milosivic doesnt look to be convicted of genocide, but may very well be convicted of lesser "crimes against humanity". The prosecution in his case really didnt offer up any compelling evidence of genocide. I predict he dies of natural causes before the judges make their ruling.

Yeah, it's very similar to Iraq, but on much smaller scale, and we actually got the Europeans to take on most of the burden.

...but...but...but the U.N. has things under control and are best suited to handle situations like this. Perhaps they will introduce a few dozen resolutions and the problem will fix itself...

Any of this action happening in the zones you were in ?

The U.N. is rushing troops into this area to try to get it back under submission.

Do you think that the action is warranted, or do you think that the local attack
and reprisal that has been continuing in the area since Early History
will ever be ended. how much is revenge driven by revenge, and eons old hatred
of one ethnic group agains another, et al ?

Or do you think that we should have sayed back and avoided it at all costs while
each ethnic group was wiped out by the Serbian Dictatorship.

Yugoslavia, like Iraq, is a country that was made up in recent times by putting together
tribal factions that never did get along, one conquest after another for centuries.

Sure...Task Force Eagle, the task force 2nd Brigade Combat Team was assigned to, maintained the zone-of-separation...we had to go around and collect AK-47's off the drunken, toothless zoltons to stop them from shooting each other up. To our credit, we had stopped the fighting there quite quickly, but after we left and left the U.N. in charge or theater operations, the country went to hell in the proverbial handbasket...

Yes, we were lied to by the previous administration. This was neither in our national security interest, nor was there a risk of the conflict spreading into other parts of Europe. Besides, they have no oil for us to steal...so yes, we should have stayed out of Bosnia...let the EU handle their problems for a change.

German troops 'hid like rabbits' in Kosovo riots

German troops serving with the Kfor international peacekeeping contingent in Kosovo have been accused of hiding in barracks "like frightened rabbits" during the inter-ethnic rioting that erupted in the province in March.

A hard-hitting German police report sent to the Berlin government last week criticises the troops for cowardice and for their failure to quell the rioting in which 19 people died and about 900 others were injured.

The charges - the most serious made against the German army since the Second World War - have been levelled by police officers serving with Unmik, the United Nations civil administration in Kosovo.

During the two-day riots between Albanian and Serbs, an Albanian mob burnt and looted 29 Serb churches and monasteries in the southern city of Prizren, and caused several thousand Serbs to flee their homes.

Leaked excerpts from the report on the conduct of the 3,600-strong German contingent based in Prizren disclose that Unmik police were left to fend for themselves at the height of the rioting.

"Despite continuous appeals for help from Kfor, nobody from the military appeared to back up the police," the report said. "Kfor proved to be incapable of carrying out the duties to which it has been assigned."....
