Pigs are smarter then dogs and people eat them so not sure what the issue with eating dogs is...
It's not like the dogs that are eaten were pets or anything.

How do dogs taste? I honestly don't care about the practice, but I've always heard that meat eating animals don't taste as good (like human meat is bad).

But veggie eating animals like cows taste good. The same goes when you do gardening. Veggie eaters make good fertilizer. I dump my bunny poo in the garden for that reason. But cat or dog poo don't make good fertilizer.

I was told it tastes very much like beef, but more tender and beefier in flavor.

just in case people in this thread aren't horrified enough, I was told that back when meat was scarce and people were regularly starving, they would catch dogs and bludgeon them before killing them.

Apparently this caused the meat to be way more tender and better to eat if prepared in this manner.

edit: I'm not sure if this practice is in place today in Korea.

If I ever go to Korea, I'll have to try it.

That's what I thought, but I've been in Seoul for 4 weeks now, and I've had no luck finding a place to eat dog. Turns out its a lot more rare than it's made out to be.

I asked some of the local Koreans I work with, and they've had dog maybe once or twice in their life.

It is traditional, but it's not done much these days.

Now they eat Samgyetang (Ginseng chicken soup) instead of Dog on the 3 hot days of summer.

You'd have to travel to the boonies. I doubt you'd have an easy time finding a place in seoul

Yeah, that's what I've been told here.

Before coming over I always thought eating dog was common in Korea, and that I'd have an easy time trying it while I was in Seoul, but that's simply not the case.

You can still get it if you don't mind driving to some small town, and you know just the right place, but honestly I can't be bothered. So no dog for me I guess.

I never saw any places that served or sold it, but my friend's mom bought one (butchered 😛) and cooked it herself.

One of my friends has a picture of a live one in a crate strapped to a delivery scooter. This was in Seoul btw, near Gangnam
