*****kool***** 4 PORT USB HUB FOR $11.99

Actually a HUB with a separate power adapter is better than without. This is because many USB devices need more power than you might think. If you split the power four ways on a HUB, and more than two of the devices require power, chances are real high they won't work. For devices like printers and scanners, with their own power source, this doesn't matter. Modems and NIC adapters are two devices that might not work because they draw power from the USB port. Keep in the mind that usually the HUB takes some power by itself.

<< too bad no W2K compat... >>

It is Win2k compatible....you don't need any drivers.

It will likely show as a "generic USB hub" which is fine. My powered Linksys hub in 98SE and Win2k shows as a "generic USB hub"

Because it's NOT powered externally, you may be limited in what you can attach. You are limited to 500mv TOTAL.

webcam will consume 200-500mv
optical mouse will consume 300-500mv
printer (w/AC plug) will consume 10-50mv
scanner (w/AC plug) will consume 10-50mv
