KontrolFreek, longer sticks for your 360 controller.

So sometime back I was looking online for better controllers. I have a problem with my hands getting sweaty and the controller being hard to grip. After searching, I realized that there weren't really any better 3rd party controllers. I did however, stumble upon something interesting.

http://www.kontrolfreek.com/Game-Controller-Accessories/KontrolFreek-FPS-Freek.asp

They are sticks that go on top of the default sticks that come on the controller. Basically, they give you more precise control. I was a bit hesitant about how good they would work, but I figured for 10 bucks, why the hell not.

Turns out, they work really freaking well. I don't know if they actually make me any better, but I do know I enjoy using them a HELL of a lot more than the standard controller. So much so that I cannot use a the regular sticks anymore.

So I figured I'd let ATCG know about them. The only downside to them is that they are a little bit difficult to get on the controller at first. If you aren't careful you can wear down the stock sticks by scratching off some of the rubber. It happened to one of my old controllers. But once you get them on, there really is no reason to take them off.

Enjoy!

Think I'm going to pick a set up for Forza nights. i do have a bad habit of my sweaty thumb slipping off the stick in mid-corner. Come back and race with us btw.

Yeah, a few guys on the AVS boards tried the KontrolFreak and liked them well enough but eventually reverted back to the standard sticks, not sure why (at least they never talk about 'em any more).

hmm i may buy these before halo reach comes out.

anyone who has used these on FPS care to give a mini-review?

I use them for MW2. I can't really say if I am any better or worse off because of it, but I definitely enjoy using them a lot more. It 'feels' like I have much more control. I have raised my sensitivity a bit too, sense I have more control, so it would stand to reason I could aim faster. *shrugs*

Asked my buddy (#4 guy) about them, here's his response:

My mini-review you quoted there pretty much sums up my feelings on them. I really only used them for a match or so and decided I didn't want them. Without them, I don't have any trouble aiming. I've got my thumb-hand-eye-strafe combo dialed dialed in pretty well so I can snap onto targets well enough as it is. When I introduce the fps freek caps, it throws everything off.

I think if you find that you can't aim very well, these might do the trick for you, but if you feel that your aim is already pretty good, they will probably frustrate you.

I've used them for over a year now. They take a little getting used to, but after awhile the racing games became a little easier. Comes in very hand during long sweeping turns and gives more precision when you don't have to press all the way left or right.

You're talking about the Speed Freek, he's looking at the FPS Freek. Same brand, different product.

works better on 360 than PS3, the PS3 stick is not long enough and that the control freak will rub on the controller and you can't move the stick all the way in some direction depends on the orientation of the control freak. funny enough, the PS3 is the one that benefits from the control freak the most because of the bad mushroom knob.

Ive used them for a year, makes a world of difference. It takes a little bit of getting used to at first but before long it becomes second nature. The normal sticks actually feel weird to me.

You simply have more precise control with them. The longer sticks level action makes it feel looser, yet it feels like there's more travel to the sticks. So it makes it much easier to do precise little adjustments.

I havent tried control freek, but I bought a pair of speed freeks (the ones for racing games) It definetly makes it easier to precision steer without getting your hands sore.

Great idea, and only a few bucks. well worth it.

These things are sweet. Definitely helps out for those FPS's as well as several other games.
