awesome! Wife and I have been there twice. Next to Kihei & Lahaina, Maui, it's my most favorite place on earth. The last time we were there (2003 I think), the lava was really close and you could walk to it in 30 minutes. Waimea on horseback is really fun. We took a kayak out to Captain Cook monument and snorkeled. We also took a boat ride out there later in the week and saw spinner dolphins. Hanging out in Kona is just relaxing for me, regardless of all the tourists. There's a restaurant across from the Royal Kona Resort that we just like to get burgers and beers and strawberry daquiri's and just chill. DAMMIT, now I have to go find some plane tickets...

where did you guys stay? we will be heading that way in a few weeks.
(it will be our fourth time in four years and we will be celebrating our anniversary there as we got married at the Mauna Lani last year!
Great photos!

PS, how was the traffic? Did you go to Hilo? did you have any nice dinners?

Sweet! We went to the Big Island in Nov. 04 to look at property there. Probably buy down around Hilo, rather on the Kona side, partly due to price, and partly due to climate. I like the rainy side better...MUCH greener.
We go to the islands at least once a year, (Own a timeshare at Ka'anapali, Maui) that can be split into 2 separate weeks if we choose, or converted into hotel points, and stay at ANY Starwood property we want.
Hawaii rox...

Kona Coast, wrapped around the Kona Country Club. Our condo is on the fairway to the seventh hole, I think. It is on Alii Drive, Keauhou Bay.
We are here right now:)
The traffic sucked Friday coming from the airport. There is some water main construction in town. It has not been too bad since.
I left my digicam at home, and picked up a cheapie replacement at Costco.
We will do Hilo tomorrow, I think.

Boomer, that is cool:cool:
We have been here 4 times, with my aunt and uncle.
If you have any questions, let me know.

Love the gate pic.

that gate has been there for 5 years or so, but that is the first time I took a pic. That is some superb artistry, IMO.

mongoose, intoduced to the islands to control rats. It was a bad expiriment, as most of man's meddling with nature. The indigenous population of ground-nesting birds was wiped out.

The last pic is really neat! :)

My mother has visited Kona - but I never have. Maybe someday...although I heard that things are really expensive there.

Go to the Smoothie place on the 4 mile scenic road between Kona and Hilo (Closer to Hilo). Great food and excellent smoothies.
