I guess I should also mention in the OP that Metal Gear Solid: Rising is a Raiden title coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 (and possibly PC?). Also, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is coming to the PSP--a sequel to MGS3.

Konami will also be introducing Metal Gear Arcade, a coin-op version of Metal Gear Online that includes option 3D goggles. Released in Japan this year and other parts of the world eventually.

UPDATE 2 Just under an hour to go, and Kojima announced Metal Gear Solid Rising for the 360 at the E3 MS press conference. Is there more to this countdown than further revealing this game? We'll soon find out.

UPDATE The madness continues with more characters flashing on the screen and now an image of Big Boss.

According to an alleged Famitsu scan, Raiden should be making an appearance as well.

It's an animated version of the same stormy scene that appeared in Famitsu with a date of 2009.05.18.

We've had a thread about what people would like to see next from Kojima, but what do you think the next game will actually be?

I've read some comments theorizing that the storm is a reference to a quote from Snake in MGS4 regarding Raiden and that this will indeed be another MGS game with Raiden at the helm.

Interestingly, there are some Metal Gear keywords for this page:

Hideo Kojima, MGS,METAL GEAR, NEXT, game, konami, kojima game, KJP, Kojima Production

Although that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

I guess we'll have to wait until 5/18 to find out. For now, let the speculation begin!

I don't have the exact quote. I think this is part of the conversation:

There was also something about Raiden being born during a terrible storm. I'm trying to find that as well.

I'd buy the original Snatcher with new current-gen HD graphics in a heartbeat. Of course, that would also be a project on scale with SF2HD Remix, so I'm not really holding my breath on that one.

Well good news. We're either one or two announcements down. I think. Konami could just be playing with our hearts, and the real announcement won't even be until E3.

First announcement was an announcement would take place on the 18th.
Late last night, the web page displays a timer, so this is an announcement that an announcement will occur at the end of the timer.

Just wait, at the end of the timer, it'll announce something still confusing, with full details to be announced at E3. Frak. I hate this game.

Now reports are stating that after digging through all the flash material on the site, it looks like there are a total of 5 clocks. So we have 4 more clocks to endure. And apparently the last clock is set to end on June 1st, the first day of E3.

I dunno. If it is a new Snatcher game, I am intrigued. Never even heard of the original, but looked it up and had an interesting concept/story that could be expanded upon greatly in the current generation. I'm thinking he could get a story/presentation to the same level as ZOE and MGS4 (story may have been crazy, but awesome).

And it is sounding like everything being hinted so far that it is definitely pushing toward it being Snatcher-related.
