Kojima and Konami part ways

Eh, but what was the last good Suikoden game? Clear back on PSX? I loved 1 and 2, but 3-4-5 weren't that good (from what I've read, haven't actually played them).

To be honest, Metal Gear Solid really jumped the shark after MGS. It was great on the MX2 and MGS really did well, but 2 was terrible.

MSG 3 was much better than 2, I keep meaning to play 4, but haven't got to it yet.

I was more interested in that all the hype surrounding the new Silent Hill seems to have been for naught.

MGS 3 was okay. The mechanics were refined, but the story was not nearly MGS level. MGS4 was meh as well.

It does suck Silent Hill won't be happening. Though, I expect it to be picked up if not in that current form. Perhaps, Kojima had issues with del Toro after watching his sausage fingers vampire show.

Opinion varies of course, but I thought 3 and 5 were great, and 4 was tolerable. Most fans of 1-2 at least think that 5 was a return to form. The "spinoffs" on DS and PSP, on the other hand, were hardly more than Suikoden in name only.

Unfortunately, 4 and 5 were prequels, although 5 did a good job connecting to a lot of plot threads from the rest of the series. There's a lot of story that still needs to be told.

Wait so now I'm hearing that Kojima's name is no longer attached to MGS Phantom Pain. That game isn't finished is it? I have zero faith in anyone else when it comes to the MGS series. This might actually be the first MGS game I don't play if he has left it half finished. At first I read that he was finishing that up but that's it, and now I am hearing he isn't even acknowledged as producer anymore. Dunno what that means.

I thought 5 was actually pretty good myself. And, if memory serves, I don't think I was alone in liking that one, at least at the time.

4 is considered not very good by most people. I probably liked it more than most people did, and even I considered the mc, and the main story, a bit bland (and liked it in spite of that).

Two was terrible at the time, but it really foreshadowed the darker/lamer direction of the 00's mainstream media and sequel culture. As far as spotting the trends it was kinda nostragamus.

That doesn't mean I like it, but it is impressive looking back. My favorite was MGS, but MGS3 was pretty good I think.

As a standalone game, and my first entry into the series, I thought MGS 3 was great, reasonably easy to follow story that was down to earth, a few memorable boss fights, fun gameplay, environment designs, didn't seem to require knowledge of past games to get into, etc. Nothing that really struck me as odd or weird aside from the thing between Volgin and Raikov. (Apparently the writers did not think highly of the 2nd game's main protagonist).

MGS 2 on the other hand I consider almost an entirely different game. Aside from voice and gameplay elements, it seems to share very in common with the 3rd game, not to mention the later story jumping the shark, a couple narwals, and a unicorn simply to find itself in a very messed up place that I can't seem to find the word for. Gotta admit though, the opening scene was pretty kick ass, even if the rest of the game was essentially a big wtf moment.

I played a bit of 1, haven't played 2. But Suikoden 3 is one of my favorite games of all time. 4 sucked, and 5 was ok.

I agree, MGS was awesome, could not get into 2, never gave 3 a try, and had to force myself to finish 4. I think I'm done with MGS.

Other than the first SH, I couldn't really get into the other SH's either though.

Was never impressed with Kojima, TBH. Japan's Michael Bay. Their story telling is about the equivalent of an 8 year old making a story out of a bunch of Transformers, TMNT, and anime character toys, with a big boobed barbie doll thrown in for good measure.

Not even close. You just have to actually pay attention to every scene. There are a lot of themes that can be relevant to today's society and not all of it is handed to you. It's super easy to follow if you pay attention and is actually a fantastic story about governmental control and military experimentation. If you just couldn't follow it say so rather than bash it like lots of other people who have absolutely no clue what the story is about but think they are able to call it bad.

The problem is those "themes" are wrapped in horrendously bad dialogue, ridiculous, childish characters, and bizarre, childish plot devices.

Metal Gear is one of the most overrated franchises ever. After seeing people praising that 2 hour game that came out a year back and not calling Kojami out on it my suspicions about MGS fans were confirmed: they are blind and completely incapable of perspective.

The pain you people fear now will go away because it sin't real. It is a phantom pain for a limb you never had.

Thank you, I thought I was the only one that thought those things and couldn't understand why MGS fans were praising the game so much. And everything is pretty much explained away with nanomachines while the themes were overly drawn out with bad dialogue and overly long cutscenes.

If that's all you got from it you didn't pay attention enough.

Seriously people nanomachines are not even the main element of the game but that's all you can remember.

I can remember the story of all the MGS games (and the original MG game). And the themes might be good, but the package they are presented in is terrible. Minus MGS, the games are just nonsensical to the point of ridiculousness.

The main problem with MGS is the story elements. The gameplay is good and the overall idea is good, but the way Kojima chooses to present it is just terrible.
