I saw this LCD panel in the store and the display was decent. Also, the price is attractive at $400 (500 less $100 rebate). Tried to find a review on it without any luck. In fact, finding any info on the "KOGi" wasn't much easier. What I did find were two companies, Focus (Focus webpage) and Gvision (Gvision webpage) that say they are the manufacturers of this panel.

I also saw that CompUSA offered this same deal a little over a month ago. Did anyone buy it and what is your opinion now? I don't know much about LCD panels but this one looked good. Major question---have you received your $100 rebate?

Any useful information would be appreciated.

New Rochelle, NY Rebate YUCK!

As far as the LCD, 45ms which is fair responce time (so not too great for gamming/movies), 250nit brightness isn't all that great if the LCD were in the sunlight you wouldn't be able to see anything.

I'm waitting for Best Buy to give us a good deal on a Solarism LCD, with an amazing 600-800nit brightness!

I'm using one right now.

Nice dimensions for the screen size.
No DVI.
Anyone who's seen it says WOW!
Built-in speakers are worthless.
Excellent clarity.
We don't have our screen in direct sunlight, but in a bright room it's as clear as my tube (not a flat-screen).

The pummeling I got from their sales staff was some of the worst I have ever encountered!
First, I get tossed between clerks, then the hot-shot almost takes me by the hand over to a Scepture (sp?) and
tries to impress me with the swivel. Seen that- don't want to pay $700.
Then it's the miserable - well..okaaayyyy....BUT you KNOW that there's a 15% restocking fee even if you open the box.
yah-yah-yah.
Do you have any in stock?
Well.....I'll have to have someone look.
Several minutes later another clerk drags out a box. An opened box.
Fifteen more minutes of tusseling with open vs unopened.
Then the extended warranty.
AAARRRGGGHHHHHH!

He made me feel like it would explode and I'd lose my money one day after the warranty.
Declined.
G-Vision's site says that there is a 3-year warranty! But they don't mention Kogi, so I don't know if it applies.

We like it a lot.

We just received email notification that our rebate is approved and being processed.

There are many name brands approaching this deal after rebates, so think about it.

Patj,

Thank you for response. It is always better to hear from an actual user rather than those who can only quote spec sheets. As mentioned within my post, I also thought the display was very good and that is the real test. Of course, the price is about the best I've seen for a 17" panel.

However, still somewhat ambivalent. Going through that mental exercise of whether it is worth spending an extra $100 or so to get a name brand. Don't know about others, but when I start shelling out over $300 for something like this, the buy-in is so high that lowest cost becomes a secondary concern.

The one question which I forgot to ask, after using this monitor for a month, has it meant your expectations and would you still make the same decision again?

I also bought one from Fry's (Austin) about a month ago ($535 - $100MIR = $435) and really enjoy it. It has a great picture and it has worked great from day one. The built-in speakers are nothing to write home about but it works on both my Mac OSX and WinXP machines with a KVM. Granted it is not "Top-o-the-Line" but it is definately a nice little monitor. I am glad I got it and I would recommend it to anyone. . If I had the money I would buy another one for my wifes machine.

Hope this is useful...

I am also very happy with this monitor. There is only one partially dead pixel, the blue part of it doesn't light up. I can't notice any ghosting while playing video games but when you scroll down a page, it will blur a little. So far it has been a good deal.

I got my $100 rebate in the mail today from this deal in September. Less than 2 months on a $100 rebate from TCA. I feel like I won the lottery.
