It would be one thing if the rich whities just took their money to their gated communties and enjoyed a sheltered life of luxury. The problem with the Koch bros and many like them however, is that they aren't satisfied just being extremely wealthy. They need to amass more wealth, often at the expense of the masses, because... well because there are a few hundred guys higher on the rich list that they need to surpass.

Because anything the government does has to be funded by money taken from somewhere else. Entitlement spending is growing faster than our ability to cut discretionary spending.

You don't hear about every legislative act that is passed to "improve" this aspect or that aspect of business. It could be that the widget manufacturer (widget-co) down the road already has a llama outreach specialist. So would they oppose a law that says "any widget manufacturer that produces a volume of x must have a llama outreach specialist?" Of course not, they already have one of those. Does such a law make it more difficult for anyone to try to compete with widget-co? Yes. Does the politician get to glad-hand with the widget-co ceo while they talk to crowds about how forward thinking they are for mandating llama outreach? Yes.

It's always the serfs who are on the chopping block when there's a deficit to solve. It's always teachers, police, and firefighters who are going to be laid off because of the shortfall. We must have the most efficient government on the planet if there's no duplication of effort or GS civilians just punching a time card for their retirement.

Or we could just fund it properly. The money is out there. California turned around it's huge deficit.

Mr. Brown was not just talking about a balanced budget. He projected that the state would begin posting surpluses starting next year, leading to a projected surplus of $21.5 million by 2014, a dramatic turnaround from the deficit of $26 billion — billion, not million — he faced when he was elected in 2010.

The governor said California’s finances were strong enough that he wanted to put aside a $1 billion reserve fund to guard against future downturns, and included in the budget sharp increases in aid to public schools and the state university system, both targets of big spending cutbacks.

The change in fortunes reflected cuts that were imposed over the past two years, a temporary tax surcharge approved by voters in November that expires in seven years, and a general improvement in the state’s economy.

I'm just a MENSA qualified three times over, Former Marine, Democrat, Redneck, who voted for Reagan twice and voted for Obama in the last one, just cause I didn't want Nitt anywhere near the Whitehouse.

I didn't even vote on the the first Obama one just because things were so screwed up, I rarely do not.

Sort that one out for my opinions these days.

When Koch, or any of his peers (i.e. Soros, et al), says they are trying to restore a "free society" what they mean is a society where all their labor is free. They are so far removed from wanting any real freedom that it is mind boggling anyone could possibly buy this bullshit at this point.

I'll take false equivalency & false attribution for $1000, Alex.

I mean, billionaires are all the same, right?

I'm not really sure what Soros stands for. According to wikipedia, he inherited lots of money from his family and made lots more while advocating for progressive causes, whatever that means.

The Koch bros advocate for what essentially amounts to a return to the guilded age and they have used their wealth to push their cause in pretty much every way possible. Like I said before, I have no problem with wealthy people but at some point, the amassing of wealth through whatever means necessary (spreading money around to politicians to change the rules in your favor for example) becomes detrimental to society at large.

The strength of the middle class in the US after WW2 is what made the nation great. There were rich people then too, and they enjoyed a nice lifestyle as well. I just don't understand why some billionaires and their political cronies are so obsessed with squeezing the rest of the population. The VW factory/union in Tennesee is a good recent example.

Happy non-union Tennessee workers not wanting to take a pay cut AND pay a further levy to support progressive Democrat causes and politicians via a union is indeed a good example, just not of what you feel it represents.

Where does it say that?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_soros
Soros emigrated to England in 1947 and became an impoverished student at the London School of Economics.[21] While a student of the philosopher Karl Popper, Soros worked as a railway porter and as a waiter. A university tutor requested aid for Soros, and he received £40 from a Religious Society of Friends (Quaker) charity.[22]

The company wanted their workers to be represented but republican politicians campaigned against it. The workers voting aginst it probably had no idea why. Nice try though.
