my theory of how the comments got into the caption were wrong. From a good source:

The captions included excerpts of Wilsteins column and the object name and slug both have Wilstein's name in them. Unfortunately, anyone subscribing to the wire (like yahoo) can pick up the photo and without knowing the background, run the photo as is.

The captions and other additional information could have and should have been more specific."
