If you were a GM looking only to win a championship, which one of these guys would you want?
Forget endorsements, filling the seats, revenues, etc. Your main goal is to win.

I've always been under the impression you build a team as a whole. That way your not relying on one person to carry the team.

Not Kobe. At this point, Wade. But if I knew LeBron had a strong work ethic, I would go with LeBron.

If it were just for one year, still probably kobe. But I'd consider wade too. If it were to win now AND later, wade. If it were to plan for the future, lebron.

I guess there's different philosophies in building a team.

When you have a (super) star, you build around him by surrounding him with players that will benefit both the star and the role players.

That was the formula for Jordan and the Bulls for instance.
Jordan was the core, and they surrounded him with role players that specialized in other areas.
Pippen was the defensive specialist, Horace Grant/Rodman did the dirty inside work and the boards.
On a double team, Jordan kicks out to their 3-point shooters in Kerr, BJ Armstrong, Paxson.

That's been the formula for championship teams the past decade or so (Rockets, Spurs).

Take away the core, and the role players are useless.
Take away the role players, and the star has no support.
Add too many stars, and you get the Lakers who couldn't win with 4 all-stars because of their egos and selfishness ;);)

The Pistons are a good example of the exception.
They have a group of above average players (no super stars) who don't let their egos get in their way of winning.
I haven't heard of much chemistry problems or complaints of playing time with that team.

Wade seems ready to ascend even higher than he has. Kobe reached the pinnacle too early, and will need to struggle to get back to where he was. I'm thinking his troubles have dragged him down.

LeBron is an interesting case ... brilliant player, and although there is no way he can't make his teammates better, he just doesn't seem to have the 'take-over-a-game' mentality that Wade (and Kobe) has. Then again, he is still significantly younger than the other two, so in time he may turn out to be the uber-player.

Right now though, Wade is showing it. Sure, he's got Shaq, but the desire, and willingness to sacrifice anything to win shows through. The ice water in his veins works in his favor too. How many 2nd year guards have hit as many game winners as Wade?

1. Wade
2. LeBron
3. Kobester

i think lebron probably has more talent than wade, but they both have incredible potential

what i really like about wade is his ability to flourish with shaq around. i also appreciate his attitude and this would probably sway my decision in his favor.

kobe can suck it

I don't think you've seen very many Cavs games from this past season......trust me, he has it.

Yeah, ok, you are right, he does have it. The end of this season soured it for me a bit I guess. I thought he'd be able to carry the team with all their troubles, and he was unable to do so (not his fault though). I have seen quite a few Cavs games though, approx. 25 in the last couple of years, and what I don't see is the fire that gets teammates going. He scowls too much, tries to act a little too old when he should still be an exuberant puppy.

Don't take my words to say he isn't going to be one of the all-time greats, because he has that potential for sure.

Who's this "kobe" guy you speak off? I faintly remember someone by that name.... or was that just a type of beef on a burger? ;)

Tough call between LeBron and Wade. They both seem to be ready to be the next great thing, they both have the talent, and they both seem to have a good head on their shoulders. I'd probably go with James though, using his size as the tie-breaker.

Agreed. It would be near impossible to pick between Wade and James IF Wade was as young as Bron, but Bron is only 20.5 y/o while Wade is 23. Give Lebron those extra 2 years and he will be the next MJ, he's already on Wade's level.

Kobe.

He already has the experiance, mental toughness, and the talent. These other 2 guys have really yet to prove anything.

Darko, hands down. a team is not complete without a human victory cigar. that kid can flat out waste mins.

kobe is has-been. how can a team with shaq/malone/payton ... not win.

kobe hasn't done anything by himself.

wade is just fun to watch but i dunno if hes a franchise player.

Lebron is fun to watch ... image lebron with the suns?? /drools

Wade, most definitely. Right now, he's showing the willingness to submit to shaq when needed much like Kobe during the early Lakers Championships. Yet he is willing to take over the game when necessary and do what it takes to win the game. Kobe is probably the most talented of all three, but his selfishness is detrimental to the team. Lebron is a great player, but still needs a bit of time to really meld in. If he had shaq on his team, there is no doubt Cleveland would be where Miami is at now.

It's tough, but I think I'd have to go with King James on this one; the amount of raw talent that he displays is damn near frightening. His poise is obscene. And if memory serves, he can't even drink yet.

That is assuming, of course, that King James has a strong work ethic. If he doesn't, I'll take Flash. If I had to make that choice though, I'd probably second-guess myself to death. It's tough.

Kobe? Well... Kobe's shown his mental toughness and his determination to win. The problem is he's got a damn chip on his shoulder and he's trying to win single-handedly. You don't want a star who's not willing to cut his team in on the action when it's necessary. If you think that's not what's happening in LA, try to find some game footage from this season and watch Lamar Odom. That's the definition of "aimless" right there.
