Knowledgebase-type software

I'd like to implement some sort of knowledgebase application on our internal portal that would allow internal users to input some key words and find "tips and tricks" related to their search.

I'd like it to be very informal to contribute to and informal to use.

For instance, there are a hundred things to watch out for when calling a certain API.. When I come across a potential roadblock and figure it out, I'd add that to the knowledgebase under certain key words.

We do have sharepoint - but I don't know if it's useful for anything like this.

Any ideas

I've used PBworks for a number of projects:

http://www.pbworks.com/wikis.html

It's basically like a private Wikipedia. Login, edit a page (similar to a lightweight Microsoft Word - insert photos, do bold or italic, create links, etc.) - done. You can search & it keeps revision history automatically. You don't have to do anything but use it. Good for even non-technical users.

I too was hoping sharepoint would have a site template for a knowledgebase...

However what I don't want is a Wikipedia. We already have our documentation in many forms (word, excel, powerpoint, pdf, jpg, video file, etc.
I simply need a solution to host and make it searchable with a semi nice web page.
