Making this as a side-topic to my other thread concerning proper AC installation.

This topic is specifically for this - Based on my understanding, it looks like there is some federal tax credits for energy efficiency.

1. Replacing our ACs with 16-SEER ones.
2. Replacement of the furnances as well.
3. Replacing the Water heaters (haven't decided yet if we will go tank or tankless).

Does anyone have some good knowledge on this topic?

The hvac company will know best for your area. I have always had them apply for them and then I get sent a check.

I thought you lived in Southern Texas, why do you have furnaces? Wouldn't heat pumps be more energy efficient and cheaper in that region?

Not to my knowledge? Though I'm not sure what the difference is.

Basically my understanding is the furnace is in part just an air pump to push the AC. The furnace/heating portion of it (which uses natural gas) is only used when the heater is turned on.

The furnace is basically an air handler. The part that produces heat is built in, the part that gets cold is an add on unit on the output side of the system. You can change out the cooling system without replacing the furnace.

Yep. We had a mlnl split ductless system installed in CT in 2015. Contractor filled out the form, I signed it and 30 days later I got a check for a grand.

Dunno if the program is still active though.
