I have an EMAXX EMX-MCP61P-AVL motherboard. How will I know if the PCI-E slot is a Gen 1.0 or Gen 2.0? and also, is there a maximum size of memory that a certain motherboard can support? because i'm planning to upgrade the size from 1GB to 4GB.

found the mobo manufacturers website.

http://www.emaxxtech.com/products.php?id=10 should be your board. says it has a nVidia NF-6100-405N chipset

http://www.nvidia.com/page/gpu_mobo_tech_specs.html going here is the closest info i could find. looks like the entire generation only has PCI-e 1.0, so no love there. im just taking a guess, but i would say maximum for that chipset (being DDR2) is probably 4GB. at the time, the chipset itself was still being used in systems which also had DDR support (socket 939 and 754 platforms), and the board would be of similar build no doubt. not that it matters being able to even use more than 8gb, but i would say its a max 4gb. i didnt find anything on the manufacturers website. got all this in about 5 minutes on google, helps knowing what to look for though. i should admit, i have never even heard of EMAXX before today lol. im glad i was able to find anything at all. looks like they are from the philippines and are a subsidiary of another company, per TH

based on their boards being the same make and design, the J&W site says max 4gb. they are virtually identical as far as i can tell

PCI Express is backwards and forwards compatible, so either a 2.0 or 1.0 card would work in that motherboard.
