The EPA. WTF? And on top of that they don't do enforcement (can but is handled by the DOJ usually), nor can they bring suit against an offender (again goes through the DOJ to the courts).

There are lots of others I would have guessed before them. DOD (I'm assuming that doesn't include military personel), DOJ, Interior, etc. I'm curious just how many folks it employs.

Unless it's some sort of typo, but it's in the Environmental section and plainly says "Largest federal agency"

Weird

The EPA has 17,000 employees.

The USPS is considered a federal agency. They get federal dollars, employees get federal benefits, and they also receive federal pensions upon retirement.

USPS has a litlle under 1 mil works (800k IIRC).

The armed services has around 1.4-1.6 million. Yet they aren?t federal employees, since their pay/leave/retirement plan is totally different. Yet those that are civilian employees of the DOD are considered federal employees (they consist of about 50,000 including those under different branches of service)

EDIT:: link to a paper I did on teh EPA

Also, I just realized this, what source did you get this from? If you are defining Agency as either an independent Executive Agency, or a office/ bureau /agency inside a department, the EPA may be correct. At 17.000 employees, it may out number all other 'agencies'. This is assuming USPS is listed as a quasi-governmental agency/office/ bureau.

The EPA is one of the most useless agency in the planet. Can't enforce anything and can't sue anyone.

Yeah it obviously wasn't counting enlisted military folks or postal workers (since it's the quasi thingy mabob). I'm suprised it's as small as 17,000. Comes out of Gleims bidness law book (published June 02). Sub-unit 14, section A, subsection 4.b.1 St00pid books.
