Know of any sites where you can hire freelancers to do coding/progamming/web design-development?

If I was looking for someone in the phonebook I would NOT have put the word "sites" in the Topic.

I don't know if they charge employers to list their projects, but they do take a percentage of the contractor's earnings.

has anyone tried rentacoder? Is communication difficult since we are from different countries and communication is, probably, all written instead of spoken?

Thanks again.

I used rentacoder once, and had an excellent experience. No problems communicating at all.

You can also post a listing on Craigslist. I've done that before w/ success. You will get a huge amount of responses including examples of work and resumes. The rates ranged from about $125-$150 per hour for an established firm in NYC to $25-$60 for an experienced freelancer to $7.50/hr for some Indian chop shop. I think I got responses from 4 or 5 different countries.

How 'complicated' was your request? I am looking for in-depth vBulletin modification.

it's all written. you can probably tell their english proficiency from the bid comment.

i used it as a coder and frankly it was a waste of time b/c of the fierce competition. but as a code user you'll benefit.

I used this once and got stuck with some fellas out of India. They did good work but communications with them was a little on the rough side. If you go through elance make sure the company or person you choose has a good grasp on english.

It was an activex component for uploading outlook contacts, and I worked with the guy through several modifications until he got it how I wanted it. It was a great experience overall, and pretty darn cheap!

Surely Iowa State isn't the only college in your area...?

Ask the school for permission to post flyers advertising the job on campus. Post them in the art department AND the computing department. =)

But ISU is definitely the computer engineering/science school in the area.
