Know of a passive heatsink for Socket-A's?

trying to make my computer as dead silent as possible. i see a lot of these passive units for the new AMD's (64bit), but not any of the XP line.

Passive for A64? I guess I've fallen out of the loop. Depending on your chip, an L1a @ 7v on an SLK900 or SP97 would be silent enough that you wouldn't hear it.

I run a 1700+ TbredB w/an SK7 + 12v L1a combo and it's darn quiet. My only exhaust fan is the 120mm fan in my Forton PSU. Max temps are 53C.

Yea, what are these passive A64 heatsinks you're talkin about? 😕

Theres no passive heatsinks that I know of for the XP line, and theres a reason; they're hot.

Use a copper heatsink and fan, and a zalman "fan mate 1" rpm adjuster, unless the heatsink already has an rpm adjuster. The Intel stock fan runs at only 2300-2400 rpm, which is pretty good. My noisiest item is the video card fan, but I can't adjust it. You can go with a video card that's fanless, but chances are it's slower and has fewer pixels than a premium one.

Get a heatsink that has a copper core and alluminum fins. That is the best combo. The fan you will always need. But you can use a low rpm fan, Idk how low, but as long as there is a fan. Power supplies also require fans and they can be a little loud. If you want to make your case quieter you can also try water cooling. For the Video card, get the Sapphire Radeon Ultimate versions of the 9700 Pro and 9800 Pro. Great cards with full power and passive cooling. The 9800 Pro might have a low rpm fan though, barely noticeable.

Or you can buy a Zalman heatpipe which is fanless.

Anyways, I run my Silent Boost at half speed using a fan controller and it's barely audible. I've run my Athlon 1.2GHz without a fan using a Zalman CNPS-3100 (accidental, but didn't run it for more than a day, light load).
