Being a cop is a rough job, anyone doing it is watched non stop.

Anyone that becomes one and screws up usually will be weeded out fast.

It varies of course, but you won't just become one and start abusing people for grins and giggles.

I wanted to be a cop back in circa '03. I wanted to change my town, but now I want to change the country so when I turn 35 in two years I'm running for President. Free beers all around! LOL!

Actually, I wanted to be a detective more than anything or be a US Marshal. Now I'm a super mod on a police brutality forum. LMAO!

Now a days, "good" is basically having enough restraint to not tase an old grandma or shoot somebody's "dangerous" dog.

And you are probably right. I bet there are 100 good cops for every asshat cop. But, all it takes is a few rotten apples to spoil the bunch. And that doesn't sit so well when it comes to enforcing laws.

I remember the one time my high school g/f and I, along with her brother got pulled over for speeding. We happened to have a cooler in the back seat. Four cops later, a nice frisking, a phone call to my father from the police letting them know we had, GASP!! unopened beers in the car (that they poured out in front of us, lol) and about an hour of our time, we were finally let go.

Even though they were "just doing their job" they were total dicks to me. One of the cops taunted me the entire time. One thing I don't envy though is being a cop. Just by being one, good or not, you are automatically hated.

How many people do you smile and jump for joy when they have interaction with the police?

Funny how those that break the law don't like cops in general.

Most cops I've encountered were decent people just doing their job to the best of their ability. And yeah, I'm sure it is frustrating having to deal with the lower elements of society all the time.

But some people go in for the wrong reasons.

pretty much all the biggest douchebags in my high school who didn't come from families with money are now cops.

(the rich douchebags obviously now work on Wall St)

at least the internet has SOMETHING in common with the ghetto - they both hate cops.

i'm glad that i don't live in a shitty area and don't think that the 1 article a week i read on the internet about a bad cop represents the thousands that you don't see articles about who are doing a good job.

Just like the phrase that 5% of the population is responsible for 95% of the crimes, you have it that 5% of the cops cause 95% of the problems for the rest of the cops.

Lul, ye kids with beer, whoooooaaa buddy, real law breakers right there I tell ya.

Nobody was drunk in the car, yes everybody was under 21, but in my state, you are legally allowed to transport beer if you are under 18. The transporter was age 18.

If he was drunk, but we weren't does that mean I get a DWI, too? So now all of a sudden, being around alcohol under age is a crime. Riiiighhttt...

Like somebody else said before this, the cop had 2 ways of handling the situation, and he chose the paranoid dick method. Calling 3 other cops as "back up" (lol) to handle the "situation".

Give me a break.

Since I worked as a firefighter/EMT, I have met many people who wanted to be cops and were barely even able to keep their jobs as firefighters because of various issues, such as being thiefs, violent and just plain crazy. So I would imagine that the screening process used on new recruits would not be able to detect most of the psychos who are power tripping, and want to be cops just to abuse and bully people around.

I think you need to be at least 25-30 years old before even being considered for any type of law enforcement jobs where you have to deal with the public directly, such as patrol type policing.

And if people are prone to screwing up multiple jobs and getting arrested for stupid stuff, they usually do it well before they reach 25-30. So that is a good life based filter of the new police recruits right there.

And police departments need to force new recruits to spend at least 5 years in police office jobs, security jobs, firefighting, EMT or something similar before even applying for police patrol jobs at all.
